I finally got the latest civilization and I can't get into it.

Civilization used to be my favorite game. I would get lost for hours in it. Man I got the latest Civilization cheap on steam and it's just boring. There are too many factors to keep track of. The ai is annoying and it's just not fun.
Do I just have it set wrong?

I need to find a game to play that my cheap laptop can handle. But I just don't think this is it.

There hasn't been anything new that I enjoyed since 4.

Seems like they put a coat of paint, some new mundane management nonsense, and then ship it.

You're just getting older. I really only play games if I have nothing else to do

Same, 4 was a great game. 5 was OK. 6 sucks

I enjoyed that other victories were a little more viable in 6 and that the disdain from the rest of the world you'd get for going to war was toned down a bit, but other than that give me 5 over 6 in general. Even if 5 at the end of the day is just a science rush race no matter what victory you wanted.

The weather stuff is so soy. Build two coal factories and Noah's flood approaches. It's pretty dumb.

Ah.

The EA - Madden approach.

Agree with the BS env crap. I just do custom and set victory to domination only and start picking people off. My biggest gripe is that the AI is terrible. They have no concept of coordinated attacks or defense, they just do random crap that makes no sense.

AI is a big gripe of mine, too. I hate when increased difficulty is nothing more than allowing the CPU characters to just break the rules of the game rather than actually making them more competent.

Civ VI is actually my favorite.

I don't play civ games but I know the feeling. I tried to get into ck3 after ck2 and it just felt empty.

I haven’t played it, but the most common critique of 6 I’ve seen is that they made it “too cartoony”.

You couldn’t be more wrong. 6 is far better than any other civ game. Give it time

6 requires more forward thinking. If you’re not liking the game it is because you aren’t giving yourself time to learn the mechanics.

If the AI started with the same units as the player even at max difficulty the player would easily win. Believe it or not the AI needs the extra settler and warrior on immortal and diety to actually make it somewhat fair. I don’t see that as a “cheat”

6 is an excellent game and I've been playing heavily since Civ 2

Because the AI sucks. That's my point.

Civi4 GOAT

I literally just quit a game a few minutes ago.

The only thing that annoys me is how the computer literally cheats.

I think the DLCs (Gathering Storm especially) that they've done have added some good complexities and variety to it. I've had a lot of fun with it and the coop campaigns are so much better in VI than any previous Civ.

Yeah, my opinion of Civ VI went way up after the season pass content was included.

Not that bad a feature. It just makes every decision come with costs as well as benefits, and environmental damage is intuitive.

Similar to Railroads! where you can save money on construction by building a wood bridge, but it'll get washed out if there's a flood.
