how so? From what I’ve seen there’s nothing soulslike about it outside of Sekiro style parrying
Outside of everything that makes it a soulslike, it's not a soulslike
"campfire" checkpoint system. You lose a resource when you die. The only way to reclaim resource is to kill the enemy that killed you. Enemies respawn every time you die.
Even the most worthless peon enemy can kill you in 3 hits.
Stupid parry system that makes fights not fun at all unless you parry nonstop (see copying Sekiro).
The main story missions are just linear stages with a boss at the end just like a Nioh game
The developers would be better served at looking how Respawn adapts soulslike mechanics into game that's much more approachable overall.

Gross. That game got old so fast.
I can't believe how dogshit ROTR looks. It's 2024 and that game looks like it could run on a PS3.

I've been watching people stream both games all weekend and both are insanely underwhelming. I'd wait until they are on sale before even looking at them

I am enjoying it more as I continue to play it. The open world is a lot of fun and is rewarding to explore.
It seems that the game gives you a lot of healing options, and most missions I have done so far give you 1 or 2 buddies that can fight with you
I still think shoehorning soulslike mechanics is offputting, so it'd be better if it dropped those mechanics entirely instead of giving you lots of crutches.

Yea this games pretty solid. More soulslite than soulslike but the mechs you mentioned are definitely there. People that make gameplay vids rarely die so i missed all that until starting it yesterday.
Combat is solid. Very similar to Nioh with the stances and ki but way easier imo. Parry windows are kinda big and you can ‘ki pulse’ with a button press, don’t have to time it perfectly. I can’t wait to get more stances to see what all is there.
Probably not going to win best graphics or whatever at the game awards but I think it looks solid visually. 60 fps performance mode and the graphics mode actually looks decent and is playable unlike most. Haven’t tried Ray tracing but that usually isn’t worth the time on console
Went with the Samuel L Jackson preset and made an Afro Samurai

I jumped back into Ronin yesterday for a bit after playing DD2 and have been have a lot of fun. It takes a bit to get the combat down, but when you do the game becomes a lot of fun.

DD2 looks incredible. Ronin not so much. Trying to hurry and finish ff7r so I can get DD2
Yeah, this is where I'm at as well. I've been looking forward to DD2 since before the project was even officially announced. I put more hours into the OG Dragon's Dogma that any other single game in my life. Had multiple PSN accounts just so I could have a full group of only my own pawns every time I played. Not sure I'll do that again though since each account requires a PSN fee to access online features, but maybe I will if I like it enough.
I have never loved combat in any other game more than the combat system in DD. The story was niche and strange, but still good. But the action is where it excels. It's not quite at the difficulty of souls/Elden games, but that's my preference because the souls type games are for a crowd far more masochistic than I.
I'm not saying that to piss off souls fans because I definitely think those games are absolutely bad arse, but it's just not my style with the incredible progressive difficulty. The OG DD started off difficult, and then the difficulty greatly ramped up once you hit a certain point, and then again ramped up when the Dark Arisen DLC dropped... but with time and patience and a few built-in game-breaking tricks, it was very manageable and fun even for me. I think I took Death down in BBI 200+ times when I finally lost count.
I only just hit chapter 10 on Rebirth, and I'm really taking my time doing everything possible on my first playthrough. At first I was somewhat underwhelmed with the overall game and overwhelmed by the scale of the world, but that changed as soon as I reached Gongaga, and so far the Cosmo Canyon region is blowing me away. I'm motivated by a determination to acquire the Gilgamesh summon on my first playthrough. I guess on the bright side, taking my time on Rebirth will allow some TouTubers to figure out and post a lot of DD2 tricks and hints before I actually dive in.

Once you get into Chapters 2 and 3 the game starts to feel a lot more like a Soulslike or at least like Stranger in Paradise where the fodder enemies are easier but the bosses are massive difficulty spikes that don't play by the same rules as the player character, and I'm at least 5 levels above the recommended level for the missions.

I am too. I still suck at blocking and parrying tho. Sucks I missed some quests in the second area that I wish I could go back and do, namely the technology quest. I'm apparently at the very late end game part of the game name and it's been a ton of fun.
I've gotten used to the graphics and they're not as bad as everyone made them out to be. I'll prob finish it this weekend and I guess I'll jump back into DD2 or my other playthrough of Elden ring I was trying to finish before the DLC.

I think any time you put a piece of geometry in front of you and the boss and it just makes a beeline towards you, getting stuck in the geometry and just relentlessly attacking nothing but air perfectly encapsulates the issue I have with some of these bosses.
Some of them never seem to have to worry about running out of stamina and can just attack you infinitely, using attacks that feel more like they belong in Dragonball Z than historical fiction. You inevitably run out of stamina trying to either dodge or block the relentless attacks.
The trick seems to master the parry system and perfect parry so as to stagger them to land some hits. Combat that entirely revolves around parrying by it's very nature is bad design because what happens when you miss a parry? You leave yourself open for attack.
I would also say every single quest does not need to end and/or solely consist of some kind of boss fight (be it vs a normal boss or the aformentioned bullshite oners).

Just beat Ronin and the more I played it the better it got. It really turned up the difficulty the little bit of the game. I tried to do the midnight mode after I beat it, but gave up because it made Elden Ring look like childs play. Was getting one shot constantly.
