They show up in the message dialog box where you enter text.

??

They show up in the post preview.

??

But they don't show up in the actual post.

??

Basically your preview feature has a bug.

We are not set up to process iPhone emojis.

I didn't use an iphone. I copied from here, which I assume are unicode emojis.

https://emojipedia.org/

Either way, the preview displays them properly, but when you hit post they don't display properly.

See ??

I'm fine if emojis aren't supported.

But don't make it look like they will work when composing and previewing a message, then not work.

Being called a prick or an a-hole is a compliment to me these days.

It is a legit UX bug.

Look buddy. I made a joke post the other day where part of the punchline was an emoji. When it showed up as ?? I looked like a damn fool in front of everyone!

Let's see if they fixed it

It's not a bug, and hence they're not going to "fix" anything because these character-encoding systems weren't meant to work together.

However, as a workaround you can find whatever emoji you want to use on that site (or anywhere) and copy the image link — not the emoji itself — then force the size to make it look like one.

Here's an example using your fire emoticon...

On that website you referenced, scroll down to the version you prefer, then, since it looks like you're on desktop, right-click the image and select Copy image address or similar depending on your browser.

Then come back here and paste it in your message using img markup as you would with a regular image, adding a "width=xx" suffix.

Like this:

Previewing it results in this:

Some are even animated GIFs:

You may have to experiment with different width sizes depending on the image.

And as TrueTiger stated, these still may look like shite to someone else depending on their OS, individual user settings, screen resolution, the original image transparencies, etc.

Holy shite.

Ok, having the preview screen show things that then fail when posting is desired behavior.

Back in the day, did you ever create a webpage or send an editable document to someone, and once they opened it on their computer it looked like arse because they didn't have the same fonts installed as you?

When you previewed that first on your computer it looked really good right?

Emojis and emoticons are like fonts. When you paste an emoji from the website you've visited, it has already sideloaded the style sheet for that character into your browser so that it displays properly.

When it's served back to you from TD, that emoji no longer exists, because that character coding may already be reserved by something else on TD, or it may be deleted because it could corrupt whatever code this site is trying to serve your browser.

Try writing Tim Apple and asking him why you can't use WhatsApp emojis in iMessage (even though they might look fine pasted in), right up until you hit send and it turns into a bunch of random Chinese characters or reboots your phone.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the answer is going to be no. Just a hunch.

Yeah, those text editors probably weren't compiled in 2003.

But I'm just speculating on all of this anyway, and could be wrong.

Maybe it's a copyright/trademark issue. Maybe it's bandwidth. Maybe they did it just to make you irrationally angry.
