It sucks but teams that are starving for a championship will try to buy one. Not only can we not compete money wise but we’ve been successful recently. Texas A&M, Texas, Michigan, USC, Florida St, Miami ect will do whatever is take to become a threat to win a National Championship.

So uninformed
Michigan’s avg class recently is outside the top 10
USC finished 15th in recruiting last year
FSU hasn’t signed a HS class better than 18th recently

Committing a ton of money to HS recruiting is somewhat akin of trying to build through the "draft". Everybody coming out of HS is a "prospect" with uncertainty as to how they will produce at the college level. So maybe the approach for "smaller" market teams is to load up NIL funds to be used in the transfer portal.

Sure, maybe you will have a lower ranked HS class. But, perhaps, that money would be better spent signing "free agents" with a proven record of success at the college level. The team LSU just played has done that. They aren't quite matching the Alabamas, Georgias, Ohio States of the world in HS recruiting. But they are finding impact players as transfers. Some from below the FBS ranks.

The big issue you run into with committing a ton of money to a HS signee is there is no "contract" to keep him at the school. He could take your money in year 1 and become a free agent with the goal of negotiating either a better deal with you to stay or with a competitor. At least to some degree when you sign a transfer there is the possibility of a longer term commitment (the NCAA is clearly cracking down on 2x transfers)

No point in complaining. College football died few years ago and the new pay to play system is here to stay.

LSU needs an entrepreneur oil management major or something.

Also, Florida State is poorer than us, right?

That all didn’t matter Sunday. Now it does?

The days of analyzing a team just based on high school recruits is gone

FSU did what they did Saturday with studs from the transfer portal. So those high school rankings aren’t as meaningful in that situation

It’s not gonna change until they win one or two. Teams and large donors who are desperate to win will pay big. Hoping to see their team be great before they die with all that money.

See, this is part of the reason we have this NIL clusterfrick now. For decades, schools pushed back against paying players saying they didn’t have the money to do so. No, you did have the money

That led directly to NIL and it’s a mess.

How people continue to conflate NIL with paying players a salary/stipend is mind boggling. SMH

Louisiana is a poor state relative to Texas. When money is the goal we lose every time

For better or worse, a place like lsu was used to dealing with managing the egos of “superstar” recruits for a long time. Not everything has gone our way, but the super new money places like A&M are already seeing how hard it is to appease these kids.

How many players of their “best signing class ever” have already transferred? Or lead to older players that should be starting but aren’t bc of how much $ a young player is getting paid & promised that PT leaving & messing up their depth?

If A&M has an 8-4 season this year they’ll have even more of an exodus. Same with Texas. *Which is why it pains me to root for Bama this weekend but I’m hoping they wax them to quell their momentum as they enter the SEC.

Best thing that ever happened to college football. Exemplifies what America is built on. A free market. To not like NIL/transfer portal is to not like capitalism and America. FACT!

Oh, I understand what you’re getting at and your tone.

Your sarcasm aside, i think it sucks for college football recruiting for LSUs future as of now.

believe it’s the end of college football and LSU we know. We can’t compete with that kind of money and slowly most people will start to wane on their money commitment towards LSU when it’s obvious we are out of the big picture now

Michigan has 1 game where they play an equally or more talented opponent all yr, not 4-6 like us. Usc has Oregon as it's 1 and only by comparison as well.

Fsu hit better in the portal then we did. Coleman, west mich dt, scar te, all just beat the sh*t out of us

Better hope Ivy League doesn't want to all of a sudden invest in football.

Or Stanford

Talk about having $$$

What does this have to do with anything and it’s all going to change next year

They still aren’t spending a bunch of money on nil or dominating recruiting

Not only do both schools have that type of money they are also VERY desperate to be relevant again.

This is fact. A&M has never really been relevant but now will pour as much money in NIL to become relevant. They are desperate for relevance and a championship at whatever the cost. Texas wants to get back to the days they were relevant at any cost too.

Yeah it's insane and needs to stop. I can't wait until the IRS starts getting involved in all this money. They will get their part...

Except for the fact that monopolies are supposed to be broken up by our lawmakers and when that happens it is indeed the best market. When you allow monopolies to form then it defeats the purpose of a free market. It will absolutely destroy an economy unless you allow competition. That’s when it’s at its best. But yes it is absolutely great.
