I had three kids go to Vanderbilt. One of them screwed off a fair amount. Had she been at LSU she would have been a five year - maybe six year - student. She graduated Vandy in four.
At schools like that, the USA Today ratings matter greatly. And the percentage of students graduating in four years is a weighty metric for that. They push and pull kids to finish in four years. And if you fall behind they grade VERY liberally.
