I think a ton of people bought in with how the bowl game went and with Canada coming in. There was reason to be optimistic. I don't think anyone really thought it would go to shite as fast as it did

This. I've said before I only saw one poster consistently talking about the program going down quickly, and even he was predicting 7-5.

No one saw this shite show coming.

I bought in for a few reasons:

1.Interim record at a mess at USC
2. Interim record last year in which the losses were an epic game (for three quarters anyway) vs. the world beaters, and a game we should have won except for a couple of bad breaks and a freak long TD against us.
3. Keeping Aranda with the promise of getting a modern OC.

Didn't work out quite right.

In business, you always hire the resume. While interviews can carry a lot of weight in the hiring process, they shouldn’t ever outweigh the work product.

While coach O’s two intern jobs showed that he can maintain what’s given to him, it didn’t show that he could develop or build anything on his own. That was the weakness in his intern success that appears to have been exposed currently.

We can only hope that the players themselves decide to show some pride in their own football actions. I am not buying into this Idea that within a few months LSU has become some terrible untalented football team. If thie staff can’t do it, here’s hoping that the players can.

I did too. I wasn't a fan at all for the hire, but thought instead of championships we'd see more Les Miles records. Up until the MSU game, I was thinking we needed to give O a chance because the play was sloppy but I thought it would get handled. Little did I know how bad those teams were and how awful we were.

About 1qtr into the MSU game I became an O opponent.

Agree hated the hire when it happened. I was convinced Herman would poach Aranda and O would promote Ensminger as full time OC. After the bowl win and Canada hire I allowed myself to be optimistic for this season. What a disaster.

I think most people "bought in" to what we all were forced to accept. The reason we were forced to accept it; is because Aleva F'd up and "settled" for O when our first choice (Herman) didn't sign on. Rather than go after Herman more aggressively; he settled for O and all the other stuff some have mentioned here. Bad call; did not work out for LSU.

Right. He's unprepared in protecting HIMSELF. How do you not talk to a PR staff member and have him/her coach you up on questions? You'd have to know that fans calling in after a historic loss are going to bring the heat.

If he's that unprepared in protecting himself, how could he be preparing an entire team adequately?

I was more optimistic about O's first year than I would have been at the prospect of Miles' twelfth.

Right now, it looks like I was wrong. Hope something big changes really fast.

I don't think the shorter practices is the big issue. I think the players don't have respect for O as a head coach. I also think the lack of early success with the new offense has the players question that as well.

I agree. In fact, sometimes I thought he was overconfident. He thought we were good enough to just line up and maul anyone in our way. So confident that when it didn't work, there was no plan B.

The problem is you listened to the hype instead of recognizing the obvious. Quit listening to what other people tell you is the truth and look around.

Not in my case. I was never a fan. I wanted Jimbo, was unsure about Herman. I wasn't even a huge fan of O when he was hired as recruiting coordinator DL coach. I was more ambiguous. I simply looked at the assembled staff which was solid, some of his changes made sense and there was an injection of energy when he took over. I do believe in "right person at the right time at the right place". I thought O might be that guy. Les actually was for a while, but it was unsustainable.

I still hope O turns it around, but the way he's handled things so far, I have very little confidence. We may win a few games against "better teams", but I don't see any sustainability.

Please list a head coach in the SEC with a worse resume than Orgeron. Now try the same for any head coach, in any Power 5 Conference. Then expand that to smaller conferences. After a little research, you will see how embarrassing the hire really was.

The only option was to buy-in. I didn't like the hire and never thought O was a good head coach but convinced myself that didn't matter that much.

I was not happy with the search, but unfortunately, I settled and decided to support the LSU Football team. I thought, "how bad could he really screw things up with Aranda returning, getting a new O coordinator, and basically keeping the staff in place to proceed"? I continue to support LSU Football, but expect the head coach and AD to lead by demanding excellence, with passion, as young men have to believe in their mentors and coaches. There is currently a disconnect and it needs to be righted with the quickness. My patience has run thin and after sitting in the stadium and watching the performance against Troy, listening to their fans gloat, well, I have removed my commitment to this heading coach. Time to "search" elsewhere for winning ways. I do hope, as I do every season, that this teams finds it way back to national prominence.

That's pretty much where I was.
