Wasn't this one of the first ESPN telecasts?

Yes (and no). In their early days ESPN would broadcast games on a delayed basis. I don't remember what broke the TV impasse (maybe a suit filed by OU vs the NCAA), but in '79 there was only one or two live games on TV each Saturday.

The LSU-ESPN game was shown by ESPN on tape delay.

I really wish ESPN (or the SEC Network) would show a replay of this game. They should have it in their vault.

My 2nd year at the Ole War Skule. Stadium was insanely loud. My hearing & voice have never been the same.

I was 16 years old and have never seen anything like it since and I have been going to a few games every season. The student section never sat down and the noise was unbelievable.

I was a high school senior. I thought the youth tickets were only $3........ Well, I'd be glad to pay $5 instead of 3 right now.

I sat in the student section with three of my best friends from HS. We drank two bottles of Wild Turkey in the first half and one of us went out for a third during halftime. I was twenty and it was my second year, it was amazing. We walked home, three miles from Tiger Stadium and I was happy as can be after a loss. We played our hearts out and should have beaten a team we had no business beating. Ronnie Lott said after the game he was scared, it was that loud. It's not always about the size of the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog and that night we had lot's of fight in those Tigers.

The 79 USC game is the older generation's 2012 Alabama game.

I watched that Bama game wearing a garbage bag to keep the rain off.

That game was my parents first date. I am thankful for that game, because it lead to my existence haha
