In 2011 LSU had an RPI of 28, 36-20 record, and was 13-17 (9th in SEC) and didn’t make the tourney. And that’s after a recent National Championship. Let’s face it...we probably have to win the SEC tourney.

I'll take this bet. I don't think 14-16 and only winning vs unranked teams is going to convince the committee.

I don't know if LSU can go 7-2 because they're inconsistent but any 14-16 SEC team is getting into the tournament.

I'll take that bet.

That's already been brought up multiple times. LSU was left out because they didn't make the SEC tournament and one year later the SEC expanded the field because of it.

There is a big difference this year in that LSU will make the SEC tournament. Had that team gone to the sec tourney and won a game or two they probably would have made the tournament.

I think we get to a regional at 6-3. 35-21 or 36-22 should be enough.

The committee was also sending a message that there was not some magic number of SEC wins the guaranteed a bid.

Kyle Peterson was saying RPI is pretty much worthless this year due to the different covid schedules

Fairfield has #5 RPI while Louisville is in 2nd place in the ACC ranked #15 with a #50 RPI. Auburn has an RPI of 57 higher than FSU @ #60 with a 15-12 record in the ACC. Louisville and FSU are in the tournament and Louisville may host.

So you’re saying if they just made the SEC tourney..they would have been in? How many wins in the SEC tourney would have gotten them in? Yes..14 teams as opposed to 12 is a reasonable argument. But having a 28 RPI while being in the SEC and not even making the tourney was a HUGE fukking deal at the time.

Yes, that was the main point from the committee in 2011.

In 2011 that would be 14 wins to get to the 8 seed.

It was and many people were upset because LSU had just started to get hot but never got a chance.

Using D1, we were 22 going into the weekend and we are 22 today after winning 2-1 on the road. SOS didn’t change either. LaTech dropped to 25. Bama is at 28. Northwestern State is 160. 5 homes games. A&M is 66. 3 away games.

#25 in RPI.
#2 in SOS.
Are both likely to fall given our next 3 opponents.

RPI jumped even with one less win than the hypothetical.

Is OP overwhelmingly negative, yes. But he pretty much always separate facts from opinions. I think we are in, but they haven’t even selected.
I get the bump, but I’m just saying his opinion was wrong, but he wasn’t speaking in absolutes.
If you want some good stuff, I’m sure it’s there before the auburn series, after g2 loss to bama.

Is there any way we can find RPIs and SOS going back to 1999?

I wrote down all the SEC teams since then who had 13 conference wins to look up whether they made it or not

Here's the NCAA's site which it looks like goes back to 2001-02. LINK

You have to filter to get the documents you want. Use these filters: Division (I), Sport (Baseball), Report (Selection), Document (Nitty Gritty). There is a report for each year of the RPI on Selction day.
