re: Rettig Rivers and Bolden

I feel like Rettig has a shot to maybe give Jennings a push in spring but he's going to have a hell of a time against Harris. 6'3 with a cannon and can run faster than Jennings who runs a 4.52. Cam will do some work with Harris' s decision making, and throwing motion, but after two years in the system, this Harris dude will be ridiculous.

While AJ is our clear starter next year, we don't know how Brandon Harris will translate to the college game.
Rettig has all the tools to be a very solid pro style QB and has Cam tutoring him. If he is patient, he has a chance to play his senior year and/or in case of injury (most QBs aren't Brett Favre).
I think we all agree Cam won't stay as our OC forever, so its probably in Rettig's best interest to learn from him as much as possible and improve himself.
ETA:
Rettig will have an entire year of Cam Cameron and our offense over Harris so I doubt Harris comes in and becomes the backup next year over Rettig. Honestly, Rivers and Boldin should transfer IMO. The depth chart of AJ, Rettig, and Harris next year is TOP NOTCH.

I'd like to see him stick around as well. But, I could understand if he wanted to head out for another school.

Jefe, do you think Rettig should get a plethora of snaps?

Bad scenario potential:
-Boldin and Rivers move on after this season
-Rettig transfers after the Spring
-We only have AJ and Harris on depth chart

Very few get a chance to play college football, and those who do only get one chance. With that in mind, he may want to consider heading back to the west coast. Everyone knows Rettig was excited to be here - and I wish certain other recruits felt that way - but if he wants to have a chance to develop as a QB and have any chance to play beyond college, go west young man.

Won't get better tutoring than Cam Cameron. He should AT LEAST wait until after next season to transfer if he does and he will still have plenty of eligibility to transfer to another team.
Him and his brother got far away from the west coast though, so that is not an issue for that family.

What?
We've all seen better QBs bust. Not saying Brandon will bust, nor do I think he will because he's a freak, but lets just calm down.
Rettig has had more time in the system and was highly rated as well. He might be a bust as well, but I'm just saying why have people already put Harris past him on the depth chart? I know why, its because LSU fans are impatient and stupid. Always looking at kids still in their 1st semester of their senior year in HS to be better than kids already with years in the system and college. Its stupid as shite.
AJ is the man, we can all agree on that.

I've seen AJ play one series.
I've seen Philip rivers take one snap.. Last season.
I've yet to see anything to influence my opinion of HR or BH.
Some of you are so quick to crown and dismiss players based on such limited action.
Not to mention the injury potential.
The guy I feel most sorry for is Jennings.
Anything less than his only action vs ark and people will be wanting to kick him to the curb.

lol. seriously? can we let kids develop just a little before we make these grand proclamations about their careers? Rettig may just beat out Harris.

Saw Rettig in the Spring game and he looked like he was fresh out of high school. He was antsy in the pocket and overall just looked nervous which caused him to make bad decisions. Jennings on the other hand was in control and looked like a veteran player which is why he has leapfrogged 2 other QB's in a short timeframe.

Bolden is the only lost cause, I think. Rivers will either transfer or see a backup role, and Rivers is going into coaching. Same with Kragthorpe.

If he stays, he'll have to beat our four people who are pretty equally skilled. The guy was a four-star QB who has a better chance to play, AND DEVELOP, elsewhere. Sure the opp to learn under Cam is good, but players develop much better if they get to PLAY.

I didn't go to spring game but I know people who did.
Between those guys and people I've read on here rivers looked best in the spring game.
So to me that doesn't tell whole story.
On HR anyways.

It's very clear that our future lies with Jennings and most likely Harris
funny thing about the future....it changes all the time. Jennings had an epic late drive against arky and we all hope that was just the first of many and Harris has the kind of film that makes you feel good about our future. Bolden was a safety net, but Rettig and Rivers with their experience in the program should have a lot to say about who is #2. only time will tell.

I don't feel bad for him. He'll have a ton of chances to succeed. He'll be staggered a year behind Jennings, and will push him for the starting job for the rest of his career. He's a good player.

@BT
I was at the spring game, took my whole fam. Jennings looked the best IMHO considering the O he played with and the D he played against. He looked in the spring game exactly how that 99yd drive played out, but add in more run plays and reads (not a 2 min drill as in the game).
Mett threw some gorgeous deep routes after a shaky start, but didnt even attempt short/medium routes after the first couple stalled drives.
Rivers looked decent, but was up against scout D also, so it was hard to give too much credit.

I hope AJ can handle the Negatigers as they will come out of the woodwork if he doesn't do well.
This reminds me of the Last Peach Bowl ever played. LSU VS Miami. Our starting QB was out and a little known QB started and lead us to a crushing win over Miami in the Georgia dome. It will happen!!!!
