Snooker & Ping Pong Tables too! My Brother was the Snooker King @ LSU.

I'm sure the Book Store is still there, yes!?! Long before Ofc Depot, Staples the BS had all kinds/types of cool LSU gear/merch. Every version of past/present LSU Tiger Logo merchandise, bumper/window stickers, clothing, hats, balls, patches, etc. Hook Rugs, Needle/Thread & Sewing stuff even. You could spend an entire day @ that Book Store and still not see everything. And the ladies that worked there were "entrenched" and had been there for like 1/2 century it seemed.

Got it. They still exist. But a shadow of what they were, and have gotten eaten up with the woke.

It was there in the mid 80's when I was there. Bowling Alley, pool tables, arcade.

I went to High School around the corner. We would get out after 5th Hour (sometimes after 4th) and go to the Union and play pool. Then we would go hack for 7th hour (baseball practice) The pool tables were adjacent to the boiler lanes.

It was post Katrina when the union was remolded. there were a number a phases, one of which killed the old barber shop, killed the Piccadilly style cafeteria, and took out the bowling alley and pool tables.

Damn, that must make you around 975 years old. I didn’t even know that Bowling, or LSU was a thing in 1064!

For the really old timers, was there ever a time when the Union seemed nice? Same goes for Middleton. Those buildings are such embarrassments now and have been for generations.

John Jacob Desmond was the architect. You can see the "brutalism" theme on many of the buildings he designed for the Baton Rouge, and Hammond area.

One of his hobbies was pen and ink drawings. I have one of Parlange Plantation that he did.

One of my civil engineering profs worked on the original Union project. He had a lot of photos and plans of the original proposal and the building project.
He told us that the Union project was originally proposed as something really special and was to be a futuristic vision to take LSU into the 21st century.
Alas Louisiana politics of the late 1950s stuck its’ nose into the project and phucked it up.
The original design engineering/ architect team had wanted the building to resemble the ongoing space race to the Moon and 2001:A Space Odessey.

Now we have an abomination of that vision.

I was thinking about the bowling alley in the Union while walking to the game Saturday!

It happened between the end of the Saban Era and the first couple of years during the Miles Era.

I'm trying to remember it in terms of when my family moved tailgate spots. But the last year I remember the Bowling Alley and Arcade (there was one of those too) was around 2003

Highland cafeteria

I was at LSU in the '80's and would hit the cafeteria for various meals. Was cheap and decent food. Also after a long day of studying you could get a cold draft beer.

One time I walked over from Middleton where I was studying and saw some teenagers playing rock and roll out back of the Union on a beautiful Spring afternoon. Went inside and got me a beer. Studying ended that day.

The band was Better Than Ezra.

When was there a bowling alley in the Union.

It either didn’t last very long or has been gone for over a decade bruh

too young. It was there for decades. It was there when the union opened in 1964. The last time I bowled there was in college around 2001. I think they got rid of it when they did all the renovations which were completed in 2006.

Where was the bowling alley located?

When you walked in the doors on the parking lot side it was straight ahead. I'm pretty sure it was where the career center is now.

Middleton is an architectural abomination in every respect. I always found the Union, on the other hand, probably the only campus building that properly tied modernism into the rest of the campus. I like it, but it seems like they can't figure out how to utilize it properly if they aren't even opening it on gamedays anymore.

I remember eating in the cafeteria there before games as a kid.

I think the Bowling Alley was removed in the mid-00’s. It was definitely there when I started in 99 and possibly a little longer.

It was a casualty of the new union remodels they did over the back half of the 2000s. Either closed in late 2006 or early 2007

Nice find. I had totally forgotten the name.

Interesting that they even mentioned LSU was their first on-campus location when it's not there anymore.
