They’ve never seen that kind of pitching before. They weren’t swinging at what they saw today and they think hitting Skenes’ fast ball tomorrow is a no brainer? Then what about his other 3 pitches?

That’s a play they work on in practice all year. Bait a lefty pitcher to pick at first then guy at third tries to make it home. Merrifield got a late jump.

That was a play we ran because it was 2 outs and Pearson up against a lefty . Even the announcer said be ready for anything here , right before it happened.

Maybe, but I think the 1st baseman never actually tried the snap tag or even looked back to to apply a tag. He showed high level awareness (he knew what we were doing from jump) and deserves more credit than Merrifield deserves blame.

You're right. The 1st baseman sniffed it out and made a great play. If he tries to tag, Merrifield probably scores even with the bad jump.
