2004 Pistons have the best defense of all time in the NBA. I believe they allowed 83-84 PPG. They have a record of 30 or so straight games allowing less than 100 points. Their block and steals numbers as a team is insane. 2004 Pistons would take 2024 Twolves lunch money.

By what rules? Detroit's philosophy would not be allowed now.

This right here. If it’s played in 2004 Pistons easily. If it’s played present day 2024 the Pistons wouldn’t be able to play the way they do.

2024 wolves in 5

Ben Wallace would be run off the court and the Pistons would be fricked on offense.

Ben Wallace could not defend the perimeter situations he'd be forced into with a modern offense. He would become unplayable on defense.

Because the refs have ruined this game and turned into glorified street ball. Any physical defense isn’t allowed anymore

You're talking about 2004, right?

Not only was that the major complaint of this era, it's much more applicable to this era by style of play

So you think defenses are allowed the same amount of contact now as there was in 2004?

Yes. Offenses are just better now. More skilled, smarter, and better schemed.

To get offenses under control the NBA is going to have to manipulate the 3 point line (possibly removing corner 3s). They've given lots of advantages to defense (partial zones, shortening the time to cross halfcourt, etc.). Even if they permit full zones, the 3 point shot isn't phased.

I agree that offenses are better, but I don’t agree that they allow the same amount of contact as they did 20 years ago.

The 2004 Pistons on the year or the 2004 Pistons just in the finals?

These are two different teams.

The Pistons in the finals were allowed to absolutely MAUL the Lakers and the refs swallowed their whistles.
