Sure, but the outcomes won't mean as much. Fans of each team will still watch all their games, but why am I tuning in to Ohio State Michigan the last week of the season when they're playing the next week in the BIG Championship game. I just don't think fans of college football will watch regular season games that don't involve their teams nearly as much as they used to.
