Did anybody catch episode 1 of the spin-off? Garbage or worth watching?

Crazy how popular that show was during it's height.

They even had a show on after talking about the show.

At its peak it was an awesome show. We were hooked. I even watched Talking Dead. It was a fun talk show. However looking back, they just outlived their popularity. They should have ended when it started to decline and the main characters were dying off.

It’s basically what Yellowstone has become. A very good show at the start, then it turned into 90% walking around/filler and then the last 5 minutes they would push the story forward.

It was a must watch for me. Talking Dead was great for a few years...and I loved when they did it for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Did they do it for Mad Men too? But Walking Dead got worse and worse and Talking Dead followed suit, becoming way too nerdy and lame.

I was into this show for probably a couple seasons but somewhere around season 4 or 5 it just became absurd and I stopped watching it all together. When you constantly have to outdo last week’s cliffhanger ending with something more grandiose the story just becomes tired. I think I was pretty much done when they killed the one guy off at the end, had an entire Talking Dead episode dedicated to his shocking demise, only to bring him back the next week because he survived by crawling under a dumpster.

THIS. You break a lot of rules and survive, but a poignantly misleading cliffhanger is hard to forgive. That and other failures doomed it for me too.

So, 12 years later, and people haven't figured out how to isolate from the zombies?

Didn’t blow me away, but actually, it wasn’t all that bad. He’s in France. Yes, France. I’ll continue with it, but I watched all seasons of Walking Dead. I’m a glutton for punishment. First episode was much better than Maggie and Negan’s show. Much better.

Not going to watch, but did they say how and why he is in France?

He washed up on shore tied to a little rowboat. Looks like he may have been kidnapped and put on a bigger boat before. There's more backstory with that the show hasn't got into yet.

Most interesting part to me is that French zombies appear to have acid blood and the people who kidnapped Daryl may have been doing some sort of experimentation on them

It stopped being must watch for us after the terminus season. We still watched but we didn’t watch it live and did not watch talking dead. We would just record and watch whenever. I wrapped up the series by myself and it was f’n terrible. I am not going to watch Maggie and Darryl’s shows.

All zombie shows/movies jump the shark as soon as other humans become the main, central threat rather than the zombies. Once the zombies have been sidelined to a supporting role, an occasional threat, a convenient plot device, then it stops really being a zombie show.

Of course, that almost always happens, because of the zombie allegory tropes of "other bad," etc.

Season 1 of the Walking Dead was so amazing because it maintained the zombie threat as so real and so central for so long. As the zombies became more mundane and moved into the background over the ensuing seasons, the show had to rely more and more on tricks and gimmicks to keep the audience interested. Negan breathed a little life into the series because he was such a great bad guy and gave the show another interesting main threat.

Daryl probably going to sleep with a nun in France was not what I would have expected as a story line for his character.

Daryl Dixon became more cringe, the longer his hair got.

Currently, he is off the charts

I liked it. I'll watch anything with Clemence Poesy in it. The boy is an actual boy. Seems like some action might be included. These shorter seasons are a better format too.

I hadn't watched any Walking Dead episodes in years but the wife stumbled upon this and I can actually say it was entertaining. I like Darryl as a character and it was nice just seeing him doing his own thing in a foreign country. I guess I will watch the remainder of the the season if it doesn't get to stupid.

They should have never fired Darabont. Imagine firing an academy award winner and replacing him with someone only known for shitty Saturday morning cartoons (Scott Gimple).
