I hate that TLJ is likely having a negative effect on solo. I thought the Han - chewy chemistry was really good and would like to see sequels made. I hear a couple of folks clamouring for original content and I agree, but I think Disney resources would allow for new characters AND stand alones of older characters. That would be my preference.

I think because of this thread I'm going to rewatch the prequals, skip all the young Anakin stuff and about half the Jar Jar stuff, and enjoy the hell out of it.

It's one thing to try to subvert expectations or forge your own path. It's an entire nother thing to take a shite on the fans and the universe in the middle of a trilogy.

Fans had been waiting for 3 decades to see Mark Hamil reprise Luke Skywalker. Then Disney made a movie and the entire plot point of that movie was to find Luke Skywalker. Then that movie, which was the start of a trilogy, ended with a single shot of Luke and promised he'd be back and let all that anticipation stew for 2 years. and then finally Rian Johnson took all of that goodwill and anticipation and used it in the first scene of the movie to destroy Star Wars. Destroyed it. And not a single person involved with the production of the movie stepped in to say "hey, maybe this is a bad idea".

That's why I won't see any more of these movies.

Why should I spend my time and money supporting a studio that made a movie with the specifically stated purpose of shitting on the IP and then went on a media campaign afterwards calling all star wars fans idiots and racists and misogynistic pieces of shite for not liking it?
