if you are not predisposed/hardwired to the jamband scene, billy strings isnt going to move the needle for you, probably. if you are though...its the best thing going and maybe ever.

go to a show and see what you think. theres no way you wont have a good time, regardless. its happy music
I'm not a jam band guy, but his shows do look fun. Glad he's having success!

I looked at his YouTube account and he only has 300 thousand subscribers.

I was a little surprised it was that low but I guess it shows just how hard it is trying to find a large amount of success in BG music.

go to nugs.net or Relisten and listen to a full show. You’ll know after that whether it’s your thing

to answer some of your questions he is one of the most talented guitar players I’ve ever seen, no joke. The dude is one of the greats. He’s got a band of nearly equally talented players. His originals are well written and frequently unique, he’s got a hundred years of covers well selected to choose from, and he’s the humblest and nicest dude around. Like I said, happy music

Try this out

check out the cover of “reverend” by greensky bluegrass on Friday

He played it at the second UNO show. I’m a huge Greensky fan so I was floored.

Ive been hardwired to the jamband scene for 30 plus years and I just cant get into bluegrass. I think Billy Strings is incredibly talented and seems like an amazing dude as well, but bluegrass just doesnt do it for me.

I do need to check out a show though, hopefully I’ll make one this new years run.

I can’t do traditional bluegrass but I dig greensky, leftover salmon, yonder mountain, kitchen dwellers, etc

I guess it’s “jamgrass”

He's got a sweet voice too and yea I think we are listening to a GOAT in his prime.

Even before I "got it" and saw him live* I just was amazed that the sound they put out with no drummer. Amazing that they can stay perfectly in sync with no back beat for the bass to follow.

*cannot overstate the sense of happiness at live "jamgrass" show!

Do it. Their jams can transcend bluegrass. It breaks wide open when Billy turns on the distortion.

I think Billy and Daniel Donato are two of the best things going in the jam scene right now. I just wish Donato had a voice as good as Billy's.

I've never been a bluegrass or jamband fan, but I've been obsessed with Billy Strings for 3 years now.

Hell yeah. You catching him at Chelsea's or down in New Orleans? Chelseas would be fun with him that small of a venue.

Agreed on Billy having a lot of crossover appeal. I have no desire to go to other jamgrass shows, his musicianship is so elite that I enjoy seeing Billy live. I’ll never be a die-hard, but want him to keep coming to Nola for NY so I can catch a show once a year.

I’ll be catching my first Daniel Donato show at Chelsea’s on Sunday. I know what you mean about his nasally Arlo Guthrie-like vocals. I don’t hate them, but they wear on me a little when I am listening to his stuff.

Alright guys - I’m signing up for Nugs and watching the Rupp show tonight.

I saw Billy open for Greensky in 2018, but have only fringe listened to him since. I was blown away that night, but never thought he’d get this big.

Excited to jump back in and see what I’ve been missing.

Hitting both Chelsea’s shows. Last nights setlist from the Republic looked fun though.

We are all on nugs of not at the shows bro. This to me is as good as prime widespread in my musical journey.
But it seems like it maybe even better and the words and talent is just not touched currently.
Maybe Derek trucks can play like that.
Beginning to get the DD vibe happening.
