Yeah, I saw DBT back in 2002 and Cooley went on a long Bush bashing tirade between songs. Some in the crowd started booing him and he told them to frick off.

First off, the group (or more importantly) their tour date figures are average. You would have to look at the number of dates they worked to arrive at that figure. If they've been touring since last year.....then it's pretty easy to say that they've simply made more money than other artist because they've worked more dates. In addition, the Chicks aren't playing stadiums, probably theaters at best (5,000 seaters).

Furthermore you have to take into account that without album sales (downloads), the act of touring alone simply isn't very profitable. The better way to determine their value as an act is to check their downloads numbers. That's where the money is made. If they aren't selling music, they aren't making money.....at least not big money.

I dunno...an average gross of $1 million a night is pretty impressive, and that probably doesn't even account for revenue made from merch sales or VIP packages. I'd say those touring numbers are FAR more profitable than what any albums sales would yield...

yeah, they've been political, but it was always more veiled or subtle, and not blatant, in-your-face in a way that American Band is

Great money no doubt....but keep in mind that even a small act like the Chicks starts out the day spending $25 - $40K just to move the show from one town to the next. Then you've got the cost of lighting and sound, crew, band, catering and on and on and on.

I'm not doubting they're making money, I'm just thinking that without the sales of their music, the overall figures aren't what they would be if radio was still playing them.

It's fine, even profitable, if country acts are the Right kind of political, pun intended. See Lee Greenwood, Toby Keith, Charlie Daniels, etc.

See, I don't consider the Chicks to be a "small" act. They're not the Stones or McCartney, but surely they're a safer bet than most acts on the road. I wouldn't doubt if they're getting a solid six-figure guarantee every night. Not bad for 30 days' work. They'd have to sell a shite-ton of albums to match those numbers. Now, I'd agree they'd have to release some new music in order to sustain that kind of success on the road for the long haul, but unless it's a 5+ million seller, touring is where the real dough is...

I still don't think that little piglet of a singer has figured it out yet. She's still at an arse hole level.
