I'm not sure what you actually mean. Basically all the hair bands could play - are you talking about technical expertise? The men are separated from the boys on songwriting - and Dangerous Toys does NOT pass the test. I'm not sure there were any "obscure" hair acts that had really good songwriting that somehow went unnoticed.

One of the best rock bands of the 80s/90s. They incorporate blues, classic rock and metal into their stuff to perfection, and the guitar work in their songs is incredibly creative and complex. As another poster stated, they don't really fit into any mold. They are genre breaking, and to me that's the making of a great band.

They are fantastic live as well.

They were my first concert (Firehouse opened).

I was a freshman in HS and my uncle drove over from Mobile, picked me up in Destin, drove us to Pcola for the show, drove me home and then trucked all the way back to Mobile that night.

He knew how important that experience would be for me.

I also found out years later he had a pretty substantial coke habit. Prob explains the marathon driving!

Was that in the summer of 1992? I was on my senior trip and drove over from Ft Walton by myself. Got a damn speeding ticket on the way. The show was great!

It was indeed...though I think it was in the spring, because I went to school the next day rocking my concert T!

That's it! I even caught them at the Cajundome later that year in October. It was the last show of the tour if I remember correctly. They were throwing out all their pick and drumsticks. Picked up a bunch off the floor after the show. Those were the days!

Disagree with you. Roxx Gang was most definitely a band that got a little notoriety back in the day, yet they were pretty terrible. They had “the look” though.
Sure. Never even heard of them. I'm just saying the preponderance of these bands could shred.

White Lion wasn't even remotely obscure. They had at least 2 top 10 singles and got heavy rotation on MTV - even for some of the singles that didn't chart as well.

However, it is true that they were a "good rock band". In fact, they were great. I keep saying I want to approach Vito about personally bribing him to come back.

Saw Tesla from row 2 in Philly years ago, I’m still hopeful to someday get my hearing back. It was a hell of a show though.

For some reason I could never take any hair band seriously. Mostly adolescent songs and posing. Maybe I’m just an old fart.

Definitely not obscure in my mind. They had some hits. Dream Warriors, Breaking the Chains, Alone Again, in My Dreams, Into the Fire….

Y&T. Summertime Girls was their big hit, but an earlier album, Mean Streak, was phenomenal. Dave Meniketti played lead guitar and also lead vocals.

Also throw in Krokus. Screaming in the Night is still in my regular rotation

Tyketto:
They came along just a bit too late but they were incredible. If they would’ve been a couple of years earlier they probably would’ve been huge but the emergence of grunge swallowed them up.

Sweet F.A.:
More of a personal favorite. I wore the crap out of their first album. Not sure how big or well known they could’ve been….again, the grunge thing happened….but they were a bit more rooted in the blues than just a “hey, hey baby tonight…come on” group of hairspray drenched screamers and the groups that had a strong presence of blues in their stuff are the hair metal bands I gravitated towards.
