It's not stupid. However it is pointless.

I'm not even sure doctor's are allowed to do that. Why don't you just wear a mask?

What about if you develop symptoms a day later?

That’s not asymptomatic. We do know that you are infectious to others 48 hours prior to start of symptoms.

I can say I’m not sick today and go to the store. And develop symptoms tomorrow and if I didn’t wear a mask while shopping....I’ve unknowingly possibly spread the virus to anyone I came into contact with.

No one is saying masks are 100% perfect by any means.

What we are saying is that is does help contain spread...it’s not as pointless as you say.

This chick must have thought she really showed me with her comment about her cousin who is a nurse. Ohhhhh your cousin is a nurse!!

If all nurses were experts on proper infection control measures or infection control in general ...my job wouldn’t exist or be necessary.

But my area of nursing experience is pediatrics and now infection control for the past 4 years.

So I do have a background that supports me having a good bit of knowledge on this subject.

I mean...would you trust the opinion of a geriatric nurse(who has never cared for premature babies in her nursing career) about the best bottles to get for feeding a little baby with a cleft lip and/or palate?

Same goes for doctors....you gonna ask for the expert opinion about breast cancer treatment...from a dermatologist?

He’s gonna have the doctor write a note to his kid’s school and then sue when they don’t honor it

Is this the same job that had you posting your “hospitals in Phoenix are starting to get overwhelmed” fear mongering rhetoric for several weeks, even though the data shows that never actually happened?

We just need to flatten the curve. That's all. Everything can go back to normal after we do this.

If you were wearing a mask then you have unknowingly spread the virus as well, because...

And the AC system in any commercial building is just going to spread it around all over the space.

So no protection is better than some protection. Interesting.

In an enclosed space with air circulation, they are basically the same.

No it won’t.

Airborne spread of the virus only happens in certain situations (intubations, CPR, SVN treatments, certain dental procedures, etc, etc) in which the virus is temporarily aerosolized.

Eta: for example.....we only mandate those in the OR wear N95 or equivalent when intubating a patient and for a set amount of minutes after intubation (I think it’s 20 minutes...we have different time frames for various areas such as our endoscopy areas, dental and OR suites). That’s enough time for the temporarily aerosolized particles from the intubation to fall to the ground.

And some face masks, like gaiters and bandanas, aerosolize the virus.

I know there has been conflicting reports about that. I’ve seen other articles saying the gaiters may not be as bad.

I do know the masks with the little valves on them are NO GOOD. People like them cause they can breathe better in them. But actually...those valves basically funnel out everything you breathe out to others. So it totally defeats the purpose of wearing them.

I still see people wearing them occasionally. I just treat them like I do to those not wearing a mask or wearing one improperly....,I stay far away from them

Also drives me nuts when I see people wearing a face shield without a mask on. Face shield doesn’t replace a mask.
