Exactly
The traffic congestion and trying to get in and out of that place has doomed everything there

How does it compare to Mary Lee's for anyone that tried it?

Jalapeno sausage kolache and bag of donut holes is the way to go.

If you want a Boudin Kolache, Lucky Morning Donuts has the best (Nicholson and Gardere). It's an entire link of boudin wrapped in pastry. The boudin tastes great too. It's much better than most other boudin kolaches in the area that have a table spoon worth of boudin filling and are almost all bread.

how are the kolache's

The kolaches are good They not as good as kolache kitchen, but the quality has been so bad at kolache kitchen the last several times I've gone, that I am now a shipley's man when it comes to kolaches

I grew up on Shipley’s, but their kolaches are trash. So bland.

There used to be one in Bunkie that my dad would stop at on our way to our hunting camp. It was kind of a hit or miss. I used to go to one in Clear Lake that was owned by an Asian family that never disappointed me.

I guess that depends on if you are Czech and like to point out that a kolache is actually filled with fruit.

It's very good.
They don't run out of kolaches like kolache kitchen does. If you show up after 8 am on the weekend they are out of 3/4th their kolaches.

Shipleys kolache has a better ratio of meat to bread where KK is almost all bread now, but KK has a better tasting breads fwiw.

Mary Lee's is tGOAT donut but shipleys are pretty damn good.

Kolaches are a lot like pizza. Some people only like a certain type, some people appreciate all types and recognize the rolls and style differences of these variants.

Shipley’s Kolaches are not an over the top gourmet style of Kolache. They basically have two types and they are an explosion of hot cheese and sausage in a dough that is slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside but can be a little bready. You’re also at the whim of who makes them and sometimes consistency isn’t guaranteed.

Overall they’re cheap, hot and cheese forward compared to most kolaches. I’ve eaten a metric frick ton of Kolaches and I’d never call Shipley’s the best but sometimes I’m in the mood for them over “higher-end” or more complex ingredient based Kolaches.

Their chocolate filled donuts are the best. Only donuts I ever crave. We always get a dozen when visiting LA.

Shipleys does a pretty darn good doughnut.

Their kolaches are pretty decent. Better than all the little independent Southeast Asian owned doughnut shops

As a Louisianan, you won't like their Boudin Kolache....which they renamed Pork & Rice Sausage Kolache (because it was such crap boudin)....although, the boudin at some of the older locations in Houston was pretty good (no idea if they will be using the good stuff in Louisiana)

Shipleys was better back in the day when the “cook” worked all morning with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. The slight Marlboro flavor added to the goodness of the doughnut. The random ashes helped with the texture.
Spot on. We had one here but it closed back in the 70's. Best donuts eva.

I'm really surprised that shipley's kolaches are getting love on here. Their donuts are great but their kolaches are very weak.
