I can't blame the 911 operator. She got first responders out there in 12 minutes. It took them an hour to get to her. I mean, what more should she have done?
For starters, the woman was pleading with her to pray & the dispatcher told her she could pray & she'll listen and she was a total bitch to tell the lady she'd have to hold on bc she has other calls to take as the water was slowly creeping up her face.
What a cold hearted person.

Dispatcher: "This will teach you next time don't drive in the water." Stevens: "Couldn't see it, ma'am. I'm sorry, or I wouldn't have." Dispatcher: "I don't see how you didn't see it. You had to go right over it, so."
family lawsuit will net big $$$$ with just this exchange

She probably should have gotten out of her car and tried to swim for safety
In those survival shows they say that in the car is the worst place to be. That operator should've gotten more information and counseled her on how to save herself. So frick that operator.

Prove it. What did she not do that caused the woman to die?
Uh, she didn't instruct her on how to save herself, for starters.
At a minimum she knew this and should have told her.

Do not stay in a flooded car. If your vehicle is surrounded by floodwater, abandon the vehicle and move immediately to higher ground.

Nice example of Darwinism.
Nice example of anoth idiot who doesn’t have a clue what Darwinism is. The woman had already reproduced.

Probably unnecessary, but its impossible not to see water high enough that will flood your car
As others have pointed out, this isn’t true. And she didn’t drive into water too deep for her car, she in fact was washed off the road by flowing water. You could have said that people shouldn’t drive through flowing water but you didn’t.
Two fails in one post. Impressive.

You should not drive in any water that is up passed the lower part of your hubcap.
Water is dense. Your car is light. You can be whisked away.

The dispatcher got the rescue crew out there in 12 minutes. She did her job

You’re joking right. She’s a fricking 911 dispatcher. The reason people call that number is due to severe situations.
You're joking, right? A quick trip to Youtube will dispell that notion.

She has to follow agency protocols, not reality shows. If her agency instructs her to tell people to get out of the car, that's what she has to tell them. If her agency instructs her to tell callers to remain in the car until help arrives, that's what she has to tell them. If her agency doesn't have established protocol for this situation, she is wise to say neither or the liability falls on her personally.
The water swept her car away. If the operator took it upon herself to tell the woman to get out of the car because that's what she saw on a TV show and the woman was swept away and drowned, she'd be personally liable for killing that woman and you all would be crucifying her. She has to follow protocol. 911 operators can't just whiff it and improvise.

A few observations after listening to the tape.
1. Don't live in Ft. Smith
2. The 911 Operator was rude and lacked empathy. At times she was very unprofessional in her communication with the victim.
3. The first thing the victim told the 911 Operator is that the water was up to her windows and she couldn't get out.
4. It's hard to know if the operator dispatched the call properly without more information.
5. It was dark so it is perfectly reasonable that the victim did not realize what she was driving into.
6. First responders are overwhelmed during bad storms, especially with flooding. You can hear that fire personnel were rescuing another driver in the vicinity when this call came in.
It was just a tragic occurrence.

This woman had no fight or flight skills. I have no idea how her adrenaline didn’t kick in. She was more concerned about not letting her phone die and not being able to talk to the operator than she was with saving her life. That was pretty weird...
You gotta kick at the window, find something sharp in your car, anything to break it and get out.
