I don't think her current BF knew what was going on.

I feel he didn't know.
Probably had no idea she was still banging ex BF.

And all of that doesn't negate that LMPD fricked up and she still had a right to due process. They lied about the US Postmaster seeing suspicious packages at the house in order to get a Judge to sign off on the warrant. Glover was already detained at this point, who was the main mark on the warrant. And they've claimed there's no body cam footage but pictures released since have shown some of the officers wearing cams. Why were they turned off or not in usage? If they were, why did they lie about it?

She may have been around some shady arse people, but LMPD is super shady in their own right.

ETA: And they offered Glover himself a deal after she was dead, that if he claimed she was part of the ring he'd get YEARS knocked off his deal. He refused.

I agree 100% but the taxpayer will always be on the hook, just due to the nature of the job. Like all jobs, there are people who are bad at their jobs.

I go back to the problem is that police need more funding (politicians are the problem) for a higher salary, better training, and more quality talent pool. With civil service, the bureaucrats have protected themselves so much that it’s hard to get rid of bad eggs.

Possible fix:

Give the FOP control over the pension fund. Settlements come out of the pension fund.

Cops won't tolerate bad apples when the bad apples are messing with their retirement.

That's been suggested but the FOP shot it down really quick.

Something else that's been in play here in the FOP is currently in negotiations with the city for their new contract. They're actively using that to keep the officers who have been suspended (and one fired) on the payroll. It's fricking absurd.

It wasn't the wrong house. They had a warrant to search her house.

Not saying she deserved to die, but my parents taught me from a young age to be careful of who I associate myself with.

Her current BF shot at cops serving a warrant.

I'm sorry she was a drug dealing piece of garbage.

But, some choose that life.

Its not about deserving to die. It's the fact that she surrounded herself with shitty people and the police had reasons for a multi location raid. They knocked and announced and then got shot at. What are they supposed to do?

Like I said, admittedly I haven't followed this case all that much (mostly because I have better things to do with my time, like post on TD). I have issues with no knock warrants as much as anyone and think they should be eliminated. If the warrant gave the cops the right to enter, then an exchange between officers and suspects in the house ensued, it's an unfortunate death (that could have been prevented if there were no more no knock warrents), but not a crime on the officers nor something the city should be held completely responsible for.

Boyfriend defending his home against suspected home invaders. Police fired back at potential suspect firing at them. Neither of those two parties were unjustified in what they did.

The problem in this whole situation is the police policy of no-knock raids. The department/city should be on the hook for this incident, so this seems like the right outcome. $12M is a big stupid, but maybe it will force Louisville to address their no-knock policies.

ETA: not saying she doesn’t deserve a settlement but it’s kind of a fricked up system that individuals can frick up or run a shitty police department but the payout for those transgressions comes from the citizens.

You’re an idiot who ignores the facts of the case.

1. They didn’t present themselves as cops clearly enough according to witnesses

2. The first shot was fired by her boyfriend in what he rightfully thought was self defense AFTER they broke down her door.

You can’t really Refute the fact he had the right to shoot first. There’s also no evidence of her being a drug dealer. And even if she was, do all drug dealers deserve to be shot?

Well, first off not lying to obtain a warrant would be a start.

But second, there's conflict over whether they actually announced.

quote:

Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, has said he heard pounding at the door, but he did not hear anyone announce they were police. He fired one shot at 12:43 a.m., according to his arrest citation, thinking intruders were breaking in.

According to officials, Walker's bullet struck Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly in the leg, requiring surgery. Mattingly and officers Brett Hankison and Myles Cosgrove returned fire, shooting more than 20 rounds.

quote:

Those same attorneys say neighbors did not hear police announce themselves before entering.

Courier Journal Facts about the Breonna Taylor Case Primer

ETA: You know what would've cleared that shite up? Having their fricking body cams (that taxpayers paid for) turned on.

The police involved weren’t wearing their uniforms and didn’t announce themselves as cops clearly. That’s what witnesses say happened if you actually read articles on the case

Did he? I thought he was in the hall and shot as soon as the door burst open.
