Holy crap if true. Was this a Catholic School? I mean, there is Christianity in Harry Potter. They mention Christmas break in the books

I attended public school, but my mother still took issue with the books. The entire concept of witchcraft and wizardry didn't sit too well with her. She associated it with the occult, and her conservative Christian values got in the way of her objectively assessing it as a valuable piece of literature.
I didn't read the first book until I was 20 years old, and that was only because it was assigned reading for an adolescent literature course I took at LSU.

Well the ban Harry Potter thing is stupid but...
Surely you see the difference between Harry Potter which is areligious more or less and Chronicles of Narnia and LoTR which contain lots of Christian imagery (or in Narnia's case, is an outright allegory to the story of Jesus)

Yeah that's called remedial English.

I went to St. Jude for 6 years in the early 90's. They had a haunted house in the school at Halloween and we were able to read Goosebumps, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, etc. in the library. I doubt either happen now.

The Vatican recognizes the potter series as a fight between good and evil ... It is on the "recommended list. So not the Catholics

I know that joke sets itself up, but I swear it's a 3000-level elective course within the English department.

Pretty sure I heard this too. It's a fictional story where good triumphs evil...

Yes it's a thing. The only thing acceptable is banging students
