It's not legit now that this candy loving, not autistic adult knows about it.

You show up at my door with a pumpkin or anything other than a pillow case from a hospital you getting candy.
How is it if a 6’4” kid shows up at your door on Halloween he is the devil but if it’s national signing day you are dancing in the street 4 months is not a lot of time.
You definitely need a blue bucket.

Kinda it all started when a woman last year told her community Facebook group her adult son who is autistic would be carrying a blue bucket. It spread from that post, how many people recognize it and how many adults with autism will be carrying blue buckets this year is anyones guess.
ETA I found the original FB post:

There’s something almost pitiably pathetic about a grown adult trying to score...candy.
You can go to any store and buy bags of the stuff, whatever kind you like, for essentially a pittance. You want candy go buy some fricking candy.
I’ll dress up to take my kids trick or treating, but i’m Not taking any damn toothrot candy. That’s for children.
When I did give candy I didn’t give it to teens in T-shirts either. If you are old enough to mow lawns you can buy a bag of snickers the day after Halloween for half off.
Now, that being said, if I was giving candy out to kids and an obviously retarded adult shows up, who cares, they can have some damn candy. That’s why you are out there, right? To have fun and see the kids and enjoy yourself. It’s a hundred or whatever bucks of corn syrup and cocoa powder. I’d probably spend more on liquor for the adults i’d Hand it out with. Who cares if some artistic adult dresses up as spoderman and enjoys the night. As long as they aren’t being weird-creepy to kids, it’s all fun.
What I do object to is Karen thinking a blue pumpkin absolves her special snowflake from the expectations of normal adult behavior. Or gives some special privilege, or obligates me to doing anything other than what I damn well please. I am the candy keeper, and will dole it out as I see fit.
That’s my issue with most of this attention grabbing FB momblog bs. You don’t get to make up new rules and dictate behaviour, and try to shame anyone who doesn’t kowtow to it. You want to participate in the holiday, conform just barely marginally. It’s not hard. Put on a costume, act appropriate, and have fun without inconveniencing anyone else.
It’s as dumb as the peanut allergy Mom’s trying to start some special pumpkin for them.
It’s a holiday, it’s silly, it’s fun for the kids and adults. Don’t try to make it about you or your issues. If you have issues so serious that you need a special pumpkin and expect others to know what special requirements are needed for your special kid, that aren’t obvious...maybe find an alternative
