Iranian-backed Houthi small boats attack merchant vessel and U.S. Navy helicopters in Southern Red Sea

On Dec. 31 at 6:30am (Sanaa time) the container ship MAERSK HANGZHOU issued a second distress call in less than 24 hours reporting being under attack by four Iranian-backed Houthi small boats. The small boats, originating from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, fired crew served and small arms weapons at the MAERSK HANGZHOU, getting to within 20 meters of the vessel, and attempted to board the vessel. A contract embarked security team on the MAERSK HANZGHOU returned fire. U.S. helicopters from the USS EISENHOWER (CVN 69) and GRAVELY (DDG 107) responded to the distress call and in the process of issuing verbal calls to the small boats, the small boats fired upon the U.S. helicopters with crew served weapons and small arms. The U.S. Navy helicopters returned fire in self-defense, sinking three of the four small boats, and killing the crews. The fourth boat fled the area. There was no damage to U.S. personnel or equipment.

Such a dumb way to lose your life. Those Iranian guys must've been in poverty and can't get any chick to reach this point. Can't imagine being that full of rage that you find yourself in that situation firing at the US Navy

Why give them verbal warnings? They're attacking a commercial ship in international waters. Kill them.

The discussion takes an even darker turn as we examine the targeting of journalists in Gaza

In Gaza even the journalists shoot guns and help carry out terrorist attacks.
Just like their doctors and field medics who are really just gun runners in battle.

Viewing Hamas and the pieces of shite around them through a modern military lens and then writing an article bemoaning the deaths of journalists when there has been multiple documentrd instances of "journalists" fighting right alongside the terrorists is a nonstarter.

I truly don’t understand why we are tolerating this behavior. We need to throw 200-300 missiles at the Houthis and wipe out every base and decent piece of infrastructure that they have. Are we that scared of Iran?

From earlier in the day, it appears that the Houthi's are about to get a cruise missile induced migrane.

Israel just knocked out Saleh Al-Alouri at a high level meeting with Hezbollah officials in Beirut. This was a major takedown.

WTF would they announce this before hand? Turn those targets into smoking craters and then be like: Yeah, that was us.

This is absolutely enormous news if true. There are multiple reports that in addition to Hamas Deputy head Saleh al-Arouri being killed in the airstrike over Lebanon today that three other senior Hamas leaders were also killed.

Osama Hamdan, is reported to have been killed in the explosion in Bir Al Abed. Hamdan is the Head of Foreign Relations for Hamas.

Abu Aamar who is the Head of Hamas forces in southern Lebannon is also reported to have been killed.

Khalil al-Hayya, Deputy leader of Hamas' Gaza political bureau was purportedly killed in a Drone Strike.

Gaza Report

An operational figure of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards is apparently also among the dead as it becomes apparent that the Israelis bombed a secret military coordination meeting for the Resistance axis in Lebanon

Looks like Israel set off some bombs inside of Iran today at the Soleimani memorial.

73+ dead, nearly 200 wounded.

Will Iran respond directly?
