I may have met one this weekend and want to know if he is a big deal?
Oh okay, I thought it was a trick question.
SgtMaj is the highest enlisted ranked in the Army and Marine Corps so I'd say it's a big deal.

My neighbor in the college dorm was a gung ho Marine from New Orleans who either had been or was going to OCS. Dude would run daily in fatigues and boots, went to the “head,” made his “rack” so you could bounce a coin off it, and always walked naked down the hall to the showers even though we had female cleaning ladies in the halls and the school asked us to be mindful of them.
I figured the country was better off with nuts like him charging over the hill. A more sane person might question the order.
He was otherwise a good dude. Gave me my first Dixie beer when he saw us drinking Miller Lite and was disgusted.

Sounds like an a-hole actually. And a dumbass for running in boots.

Do it. frick all these POS nerds.
The gunny will have more respect for you having been prior enlisted and so will the other officer candidates.
Buddy of mine did it in his mid 20’s, finished LSU, and still flies Huey’s.
Good luck. We’re all counting on you.

The thought of our future military leaders getting advice in the O-T Lounge pretty much confirms my premonition that, as a nation, we are fricked!

No advice here but My dad did it in the 60’s during Vietnam years, ended up captain before he got out. He was going to stay in after the war but they put him at 29 palms and was bored as hell so he got out. Went to their class reunion a few years at quantico and it was badass. Got to do a lot of the simulators. Lots of respect for those guys. Bunch went of to fbi/cia, all kinds of crazy stuff. Met the former GM of the Mets who was his classmate

Seriously, OP, talk to an OSO.
I already have. I’m familiar with the process and well into it at the moment. Just looking for general info about OCS and TBS themselves. I even have some Officer friends, who said OCS has changed quite a bit over the years.

What would you hope to do when you get back out in the Fleet?
Posted on 9/2/19 at 5:18 am to BRgetthenet
It wouldn’t matter. It’s very unlikely to get your top pick for jobs with the way they do officer branching.
Once you make Captain, you barely do your MOS anyway and it’s mostly admin & leadership roles after that for about 90% of Marine officers. Some of the highly specialized will still do their jobs well into O-3.
The main goal is getting back in right now and completing the rigors of the first 8 months.

I’ve met a lot of dumbass officers. Pretty sure you just have to be in shape and not quit.

If you want to be a Marine, my advice is this:
-Don't let anyone on a message board talk you into it or out of it. However if you've decided this is what you want, life is short, this would be a good accomplishment.
-Show up in shape.
-You will be deployed for chunks for your time, make sure you & your wife are ready for that.
-It can be dangerous.
-Show up in shape if you're going to do it.
-If you have heart and won't quit mentally or physically then you'll do fine.
-Show up in shape.
I was 29 when I went through OCS, if you've decided you're not going to quit & can hang with them physically then you'll be OK. I was coming straight out of the enlisted side so I had that going for me.
One other thing, show up in shape.

Boots and Utes run, a Marine thing, early and often!

This is not the place to come for real advice. Talk to a Marine Corps recruiter.
Find an Officer Recruiter or talk to an Officer at a Reserve Unit. Get the gouge from them. They'll give straight info about OCS and TBS.
Stay away from Enlisted Recruiting. They're bs artists.
