Matt Rife’s response to Netflix controversy a link to website for special needs helmets

Comedian Matt Rife has ignited controversy with his Netflix special “Natural Selection,” which launched Nov. 15 on the streaming service. The special kicks off with a joke about domestic violence. In what appeared to be an apology posted to his Instagram story, Rife directed anyone offended by his jokes to a link that led them to a website for special needs helmets.
quote:
At the beginning of Rife’s “Natural Selection,” he tells a story about being in a “ratchet” Baltimore restaurant with a friend and noticing their female server has a black eye. They wonder why the restaurant wouldn’t have the server work solely in the kitchen so that customers wouldn’t see her black eye. Rife jokes, “Yeah, but I feel like if she could cook, she wouldn’t have that black eye.”
quote:
Rife tells the crowd the joke was him “just testing the waters, seeing if y’all are gonna be fun or not.” He adds: “I figure if we start the show with domestic violence the rest of the show should be smooth sailing.”
quote:
The joke generated controversy on social media in the days following the streaming debut of “Natural Selection,” so much so that Rife took to his Instagram story on Nov. 20 to issue a mock apology. “If you’ve ever been offended by a joke I’ve told, here’s a link to my official apology,” he wrote alongside a link that said: “Tap to solve the issue.” When tapped, the link brought followers to a health website where they could purchase special needs helmets. Mocking viewers upset with his domestic violence joke by evoking special needs only added more fuel to the controversy.

I’m not a Matt Rife fan, but we need more responses like this to the sensitivity mobs.

Leftists have ruined comedy. Can’t joke about anything without having to worry some gaping vagina will get their feeling hurt.

Funny is just funny, and that was hilarious

i'm ok with this...
so sick of cancel culture. 90% of jokes are going to offend something or someone today. The guy makes his living telling jokes....

This special was certainly not his best work, but that response redeemed it.

Sounds like a black comedy routine along the lines of Christopher Titus.
Titus tells some mildly offensive jokes early in the routine to some boos and responds to the audience that they are just getting started.
In Titus’ case, at least one routine played hopscotch with the line of offensive and funny by promoting torture of pedophile priests and yelling at the priest to “take it like a man”… then stopping to apologize to little Johnny who had been told that same thing by the priest in question while being abused.

Andrew Schultz makes that joke look like a knock-knock joke.

I guess they don't care about Amy Schumer's special that starts off talking about fricking children. I wonder why.

Who admits to watching Amy Schumer’s routines?
Only ones of hers I have seen were Comedy Central Roast sets before she blew up… and got really famous too.

fricking Liberals are the absolute worst. They're soft, unstable, and as unfunny as can be.

This is how you double and triple down --- and not back down to those who are offended.
If you are offended, that's your own personal issue. Don't like what he has to say? Don't attend or don't listen on social media. It's actually a really simple premise.
Hats off to Matt.

The next funny female comedian I see will be the first.

That's how he and a lot of the darker comedians feel. Censorship is not good. Chappelle, Segura, Carr, Jeselnik, Norman
All on the same page as him
And I forget who said it, probably Chappelle, but someone's triggers are not the problem of everyone else
That's why I said frick Lafayette when they got all bitchy about Segura's Cajun jokes

People are so damn soft these days.
They'd really flip if Stanhope was coming up during these times. They'd probably stone him to death.

Absolute hypocrite who deserves her recent failings. She's free to make all her shitty jokes on stage or in awful movies, but one (gay) kid makes a funny joke at her expense and she flips out
