but these two techs at the Gonzales Walmart know me by name when i come in at 7am on a Tuesday morning.

Thats good...that way they will know exactly whose car they fricked the oil pan or worse oil pump on by stripping the drain plug or cross threading the filter. Its always a good thing for folks to know the names of the people they fricked out of $7K.

I paid $450 for oil change, tire rotation and both fuel filters changed on my 2022 F250. Did motor craft and do the oil change every 7500 miles and fuel filters every other time. I think the oil change was around $120 and tire rotation was $40 due big tires.

Planet Fort wanted $800 to do the same shite.

I do my own with full synthetic every 5k miles for just about $50 (6qts and filter) and it takes less than 10 minutes.

In all seriousness I have more than enough income to pay someone to maintain our vehicles...the problem is no one can do it better than I can. I can also do it for far less. Brakes are a fine example. My wife believes red lights and brake lights and stop signs are liable to go away before she has to take her foot off the gas...so she goes through brakes like crazy. She drives a BMW. BMW wants about $800 and axle to change pads and rotors. They have to have an appointment and the car has to be there at least a day. I can buy the parts anywhere around us to do all 4 wheels for under $250 and change the brakes in about 90 minutes, most of that time spent finding the dam tools and removing the hub retention screw. Thats $1350 difference in cost and it takes maybe 2.5 hours of my time total buying the parts and installing them. I can buy the parts online and when they come in change the brakes after work in the summertime. Why on earth anyone pays a soul to change disc brakes is beyond me. Changing oil either.

Just paid $150 for Tahoe (oil) change. It uses more oil but still seems like I am paying a premium to sit in the car.

That seat you're sitting on has a big old steel probe up your arse.

Just the price of oil, filter, and drain plug gasket.

You change your drain plug seal every oil change? You must have had a bad experience with one of those in your life.

Why?

I use Mobil 1 in the sports cars, and Shell Rotella in the truck. I just go with the algorithm.

$10 a month in my monthly note for oil changes, tire rotations, etc. Said it was only supposed to be every 10k miles but I've gone every 5k and I've never been charged.

So $120 last year for 3 synthetic oil changes on my truck.

I do it at around 5K also but it is about half what the manufacturers recommend. Most owners manuals call for an oil change at 7500-10000 unless you are hauling heavy loads most of the time, driving in harsh conditions like dirt roads and blowing dust or in traffic for long periods of time. Normal use of most cars/trucks means 7500-10000. I do it at 5k or so because I always have. I have driven vehicles that required constant attention to get back and forth to work in my life. Many of those cars would be considered junk yard escapees by most people...yet I nursed them along until they gave out or I could buy a slightly better piece of junk. I can no afford to drive about anything L damn well please but still change oil around 5K because I always have.

Why changing at 5k?

7500 - 15000 is recommended or just get a semi

I do all of my vehicles except for the 16 Duramax High Country. It goes to the Chebmvy house. I know a guy there so I get a little help on the cost.

Oil from Walmark and filter with my labor. It's Mobil1 synthetic as per manufacturer and filter: about $35 to $38.

I started changing my own oil a couple of years ago. Easy, takes less than an hour, and piece of mind that it’s done right.

Wasn't being critical, just curious.

That's how we did it back in the day, and I know some guys still do it that way.

I had to nurse a few of 'em, too.
