For those that live in the Houston area, I need a plumber to replace a water heater our attic (stupid builder). Does anyone have a recommendation for a reputable one?

Do it yourself. It's easy as hell Just get a friend to help you load it in your attic. I changed out my parents one in the attic two years ago. Plus, it's not that hot in attics during the fall.

I wouldn't call ARS - they'll rip you off. WHereabouts are you in Houston?

I got a quote for 1400 to replace a 40gal water heater in our attic. Seems pretty pricy when I can get a new water heater for a few hundred bucks.

Gary, he's a good plumber and real cheap but don't leave him at home with your woman.

It's not hard to change out. Everything should be screw type fittings. Get a garden hose and drain it before you try to take it down.

I had a guy come install a 50 gallon water heater in my attic on a Saturday for right at $1,000 in Katy.

As someone else asked, where in Houston area? Gas or electric? We changed out two 40-gal (gas) in the attic not too long ago. If I remember correctly, was under $1K for each, but not by much. $1,400 does sound high - I would think you could find someone for $1,000 or a tad higher.

Also, obviously the ease of access is a big determinant. Is it fairly easy to get to from the attic stairs?

They are the self proclaimed water heater king. They are legit, been around Houston for over 30 years.

Sorry your parents raised a pussy And since you've established you are silver spoon fed, you wouldn't know that there are also well to do people who enjoy doing "that shite" by themselves.
