I know a lot of people don’t go to the main ceremony, but this sucks for those that we’re looking forward to it, especially families of first time college graduates or those that weren’t expected to make it through college.

They had already blocked the valedictorian from speaking at that ceremony because she was going to do a speech about Palestinian treatment by Israel, IIRC.

If the school administration had any moral courage at all, they wouldn't let this happen.
