Only eleven (11) states require an annual inspection sticker/brake tag.
Are we still living in 1947 ?

It won't be removed. If they do, it'll be replaced with yet another tax that exceeds the revenues from the stickers.

What do you think they’re doing when they plug into your vehicle’s computer?
Don’t do that in Jefferson. Assume that was a Baton Rouge emissions issue.

And they are certainly cracking down on windshield cracks the last few years. Anything greater than 6 inches can’t pass regardless of location on windshield.
Hasn’t been an issue in my experience

I’d rather pay $10 a year/$20 every 2 years if they pick up the vehicle tax instead of the sticker.
Or you could be in a state like Missouri which has a front plate, inspection sticker, and personal property tax.
Also have to present your personal property tax receipt, proof of insurance, and inspection voucher when registering a vehicle so no way to skate by on any of it, other than just driving an unregistered vehicle.
Technically, residents are supposed to pay personal property tax on all manner of things like office equipment, cattle, ATVs, tractors, rental property, trailers, boats, etc

I don’t see it being removed.
It is their mechanism to attempt to have you purchase liability insurance.
This is a no go for the ambulance chasers.

That's what they said about the tolls on the CCC bridge in Nola and they got taken down

The small crack in the windshield really aggravates me. Instead of paying just $18 I have to buy a new windshield for 6-700 just to pass
dealing with this now. and its at the very bottom of the windshield and hinders zero visibility. here's the kicker, the same place has given me my sticker, the 2 year version, the last 2 times.......this time they said they are cracking down, anything over 8" has to be replaced. so i got a nice big orange sticker on my window now and safelite coming out tomorrow.

If you know where to go, a windshield crack won’t stop one from renewing. Even one that spans the window.

just recently had my inspection sticker renewed. It gets more difficult every year. Extremely long lines.
My truck would never pass inspection except the place I take it only. Heck’s horn and lights takes about 10 minutes to get it done.
Another place I used to go to they just gave me the sticker and I filled it out and put on myself but that place is closed cough cough cough this pollen got me coughing LOL

South Carolina used to require inspection stickers, IIRC they were phased out 30+ years ago.
If you “knew where to go”, you could pay for the sticker and pass, no matter what.
If you went to most other places, typically they’d check the aim on your headlights, claim they adjusted them, and charge you an extra $20 or so.
If you were unlucky you’d wind up with some guy studying your muffler with a magnifying glass looking for corrosion.
The state did away with the sticker, seems like they added a few bucks to registrations to offset the difference.
Life goes on, the sky hasn’t fallen, no adverse effects since they did away with inspections.

Mississippi got rod of inspection stickers about 20 years ago. I lived in BR 10 years and when I moved to MS I was surprised how the government wasn’t as useless as LA’s. Crazy insurance, crooked pols and tras everywhere. Glad I left.

That’s the problem. There are a lot of people who can’t afford to fix the things that keep their cars from passing inspection. And then they get a $300 ticket which they also can’t pay. And then they get a suspended drivers license that they can’t pay. And then they get a driving with a suspended license that…..they can’t pay. It’s a full circle
And they never get their damn vehicle towed away and off the road.

sheriffs want another reason to pull people over and give them a ticket.
Judging by the number of posters who always claim they don't have one or have one that is 6 months expired, I'm going to call bullshite on this.

I’d pay more for the registration if it meant no brake tags. Mind you I have no faith that revenue will go towards any perceived benefit to us, the taxpayer.
Don’t want front license plates at all.

SC did away with front license plates probably late 70’s.
Nice not having to go through the grief of getting inspection stickers. I think now you pay a yearly fee of $40 to renew your license plate when you pay your taxes. Well worth it.

They have, through the tax on vapes. It’s supposed to bring in $9.5 million. One year inspection stickers bring in $3.5 million to LSP.
