Slaughter is barely still austin

Maybe 5 - 10 years ago. It's developed a lot the past few years. Now, if you are talking culture-wise, yeah. Circle C is a nice neighborhood but it's not very Austin. But lots of upper 20 year olds live over there.

On the north side, I'm not sure how pricey Riata is, but it seemed to have a lot of young adults there and they have their own sand volley ball courts with a league. I used to play in it and it was a lot of fun. It's north of Braker, but not by much.

Budget of around $1,500 per month in rent.

Seriously though, everyone I know in Austin lives east of 35 off of Chavez.

In all seriousness, I would try and find a place as close to downtown as possible. Even if it was an efficiency. Your life will be much, much better. Do not under any circumstance move to Round Rock.

South Austin is going to be much different than uptown Dallas but will likely be your best bet. Go South until you find something, anything in your budget. You can always be more selective in your next move and/or find a roommate.

Just use craigslist to find a place. LINK

Burnet Rd between 45th and Anderson Ln is a good area that has lots of new lofts / apartments, most between $1,000 - 1,500. Also check out Midtown Commons apartments off Lamar. It's on the train / rapid bus route. Train takes 10 minutes to get to downtown, Bus will be more like 30-45 min.

You're commute won't usually be more than 30 minutes if you work downtown for either of these.

(if you're cool with paying 50 cents to get downtown quick)

You sure about that? Every time I look it is +$3. It's 25 - 50 cents on weekends when less traffic and no need to use it.

This actually isnt a bad idea. It's at a rail stop so you could hop on and ride it downtown instead of paying for parking (unless your company is supplying a parking spot).

1) Go make the commute from your office to where you're talking about living to see if you can handle it every day
2) Stay North of 290 and south of 183
3) Downtown is a fun option if you're into that
4) West Campus is mostly UT student housing
5) Hyde Park has some gems for rent if you get lucky; some of these may just have signs in yards and not be advertised online
6) Going south has some great options
7) Neighborhoods to look at: Tarrytown, Hyde Park, Mueller, Clarksville, Barton Hills, South Congress, Rosedale, North Loop, Travis Heights ...
