OP, I do this type of work and am familiar with others who do it as well. If I were in your shoes and in your area, I would call Ben Misko in New Orleans.

If you have a good neurosurgeon that can write you a letter explaining everything that is happening and her future prognosis would be helpful. Mine did that and I was granted disability with my back first try. Thanks to him I was lucky. This was back in 2008 and he died from colon cancer 3 or so years later.

This is called a Harrington rod placement and is done for severe scoliosis. If she can walk well enough to perform sedentary activities, she will be denied for disability benefits if she is under age 50. An attorney will not affect the decision at all and is a waste of time and hope.
