80s was a decade of cocaine and cigarettes, especially for celebrities. Add in all the popular pre-packaged foods & tanning in baby oil and you can add 10-15 years to the way anyone looks.

A better comparison is looking at yearbooks from the 80's and 90s to today's.

Since about mid 90s (see Friends), it is rare to have anyone who doesnt look like a model star in a show.
They cast mostly attractive but also kinda normal looking people back in the day.
Also, we sure about the Coach's age there? And that's just a bad pic of Diane.

IMO, only Cliff and Coach look older than their age. Cliff looks 47 and coach looks 67.

I looked pretty young for my age but then my facial hair turned grey and white once I hit 40. Makes me look older.

Shelley Long had a bangin body back then. That scene in Night Shift when she was making breakfast…

yea i think smoking peaked in the 70s/80s so im sure that matters

It actually peaked in 1965. It has steadily declined since.

The daily demands on the average American have steadily improved over time. Life used to be much harder. People didn’t devote nearly as much time to personal health. I also agree the styling doesn’t help them.

Could be the hair and attire, but there’s simply no explaining away Coach and Cliff. Coach looks to be in his 70’s and he and I are close in age, and Cliff looks closer to my age group than 35. That can’t be right.

Check out pictures of MLB players in the 1930s. They mostly looked mid-forties

Being outdoors more, people weren't homebodies. They went to the beach, tanning was still a thing, for instance.

Second hand smoke, health food and exercise for fun were not nearly as big back then. Skin care routines....etc.

Whenever “Cocoon” came out in 1985, Wilford Brimley was about the same age as Tom Cruise was whenever “Ghost Protocol” (2011) came out (~50 years old). Cruise is 59 this year.

Jack Warden died at 85, but he already looked that old 16 years before his death in 1990’s “Problem Child.”

Also...relativity on judging things as you age probably comes into play, but I’m sure folks are aging better when it comes to some things.
