At red’s in Lafayette, I think if you don’t have a least 2 when you walk in the door, they stop and give ink you up. It’s incredible, the amount of sleeve, side and thigh tats. They haven’t caught me yet.

Tats are part of the destruction of the middle class and it morphing into the poors.

I got a tattoo when I was 18 in the late 90s. I did it because I was leaving my tiny home town for college, and when everything around me felt like it was changing, I wanted something that would be permanent. That was my 18-year-old logic anyway.
Fast forward 25 years, and I morphed from lower middle class to upper to middle class. Wish I’d never gotten the tattoo, but I don’t hate it enough to have it removed.

You should do some research on tattoo history. I’m pretty sure it’s not a fad. In fact I’m pretty sure it’s been going on worldwide for centuries or more. I’m guessing it will out last your diabetes related death at 65 fatty.

It's an instant class indicator. It won't be going away. Almost none of my friends have a tattoo and the very few that do have them hidden.

I have three kids either at LSU or recent grads. They, along with none of their friends, have tattoos (unless they are well hidden).

I have been to a lot of weddings lately, and I have seen almost no tattoos on the women/young ladies there. (Men obviously in suits, so hard to tell).

It is very class driven. Sure there are exceptions. But in certain circles, they are virtually non-existent.

Who knows when it’ll fade but statistics say that the majority of this board is from the Deep South and overweight, wearing a brightly colored PFG shirt with cargo shorts and hey dudes, ironically calling people with tattoos trashy.

Are shitty fashion choices permanent? I've seen some bad apples to oranges comparisons, but that is like apples to bicycles.

Sure, tattoos have been around for a long time. But they were not a part of the American mainstream until the mid-1990s. That is the very definition of a fad.

I don't see it stopping. I'm thinking about getting one soon for my birthday. I have been wanting the same thing for almost 20 years but was too indecisive. I think it's now or never. I'm starting a new job soon that is kind of a dream gig so I'm thinking of finally doing it as a present to myself.

agree with all of this.

The few people in my circle who got them young, paid heavily to have them removed.

I’m the same, too indecisive. I would have buyer’s remorse if I got a tattoo lol.

Same. I always say if I found something I really wanted to get, I'd get a tattoo. But there's not really anything I want.

an instant class indicator ? your sample size is your tiny little southern bubble. I live amongst far more successful people here by most objective measures in Boulder, and many of them have tattoos
Success, especially in certain industries such as tech, does not connote class or taste.

Tattoos are always in poor taste.

Eventually yes. Unfortunately, the tattoos won’t.
