Legalize it regardless. It's an absolute joke that its illegal in the first place while alcohol is legal. I don't smoke either, I just know bull shite when I see it.

The issue is not that the funding didn’t go to schools. The issue is that they removed all the prior funding to schools so they never increased a school budget, just shifted funds around. Bunch of crooks.
I’d support legalization without the mandated tax appropriations.

As I said, we're centuries behind and that much corrupt

I would as long as surplus funds had a way to be used. Based on the money other states have raised LA would be able to easily find the Coastal Master Plan.

I'm for the legalization of marijuana but screw any new taxes. You want to give those crooks in Baton Rouge a billion dollars a year to steal?

I think its gonna go Florida, GA/NC then LA when the dominos start falling. But it should be LA.... everyone else.
This is very accurate. FL will be the first but that's expected. Hopefully we don't wait too long and miss out on the taxation windfall we need.

No thanks, and that has nothing to do with not wanting weed legalized. I just don't like being lied to.
What happened with the lottery and education spending is a crime. Introduce the lottery and help supplement school funding. Then when the lottery provides a lot of money for schools, take away previous funding and direct it other places. Now schools are reliant on the lottery funds and the lottery is the biggest opponent to any other form of legal gambling because if anything may remotely compete with the lottery, it's taking money from schools.

There is no valid argument to keep it illegal other than people just being ignorant and thinking its bad. If alcohol is legal pot should be. Period. But what the government does with the money doesn’t matter to me. The lottery money was supposed to go to education and look how that worked out. I don’t trust them to be smart with it.

Since coastal restoration is just a big sham for politicians to line the pockets of their campaign contributors in the construction industry, I’m gonna go with “No”.

GA/NC are the next tier of forward-thinking state governments in the South. You guys will beat MS/AL & probably SC & TN.

Just what we need.....more dedicated revenue

What about if the revenue went to road infrastructure?
Think of all the studies we could buy.

Maybe use the money to send folks who never left Louisiana to Houston to show them improvements in infrastructure and new schools with amazing results.
They might faint to see Cy-fair and Katy ISDs spending several thousand less per student (compared to EBR) and have amazing results.

I support recreational use now
Posted on 3/30/18 at 11:04 am to Bison
I would support legalizing it and not taxing the hell out of it.

Yep, SOP LA legislature find new funding source, reduce regular contribution for funding elsewhere.

The argument isn’t to allow a harmful substance strictly for revenue. The argument is banning a (mostly) harmless substance is causing the state to miss on millions of potential tax dollars in a state that has budget issues.
The reason the tax dollars the government "covets" is so large is because of the heavy tax the state collects. If it weren't about heavy taxes then why would states trumpet about how much revenue they collect.
Here is what Colorado does:
quote:
Recreational marijuana, also known as adult-use, is taxed more aggressively. In addition to the sales tax of 2.9%, the state charges an excise tax of 15% and a special sales tax of 10%, plus license and application fees.
It's almost a 30% tax not counting other fees.
So like I said, legalize it if it's no health problem, but a tax windfall shouldn't be the basis for legalization.
Posted on 3/30/18 at 12:46 pm to Bison
I wouldn’t support it if the money went into my checking account.

Louisiana ranks 29th in total tax burden and look at the results. Pitiful roads, education last, healthcare poor.
Louisiana was 45th in Tax Burden in 2012, citizens have been taxed a lot more in the past 5 years so you expect you would see improvement in those areas mentioned above, have you?
So what you're saying is that Louisiana has had a below average tax burden for years and an extremely low tax burden in years prior and you're wondering why the results suck?
