Feeders and Deer

Anyone ever had issues with deer that refuse to eat out of a feeder? They will eat within 10 years of it but will not get any closer to it.
I have an auger style Moultrie and if I throw it they will eat it, if it dumps on the ground or into a trough (that they’ve been eating from since January)
Anyone ever found a way like hanging limbs or something to fool them?

They just have to get used it. Sometimes it can take a day sometimes months. Not much you can do, it could be a smell it puts off or the type of click it makes, no way to know. We’ve used every type of feeder under the sun, and eventually they get the hang of it. It can help to have corn on the ground directly under it so they learn to associate it with food and that it doesn’t bite, but there’s no hard rule.

Sheeeit no. They are pounding my feeders.
But yeah, it took like three years to get to this point.

We have pictures of ours spinning the feeder blade with their tongue to get more corn out.

Is the motor one that has low/med/high settings?
Same here. I put out some mo buck Saturday and I’ve had a 9pt guarding it for 2 days now lol

Maybe. It’s the rancher series

Deer will get used to them pretty quickly in my experience. A lot of the older bucks will not really mess with the feed from the feeder, just graze around the feed that’s on the ground.
I had my “pets” one year which was 3 doe with one being an old arse nanny that I should’ve shot due to her always staring at me.
The feeder would go off and within 2 minutes they were out feeding.

Same here. Guess the drought dried up all the hood browse. They are pounding the corn.

I agree with most of the guys here. The deer are smoking the corn. Just wish the damn pigs would go elsewhere.

Just be glad you don't have bears. I'd trade in a heartbeat.

I was asking bc I had this problem. A few places where I have feeders are tight fire break lanes. The motor on high slings corn all into the woods and away from cameras. I adjusted the speed down to medium and it keeps the corn in the lane.

Put A LOT of corn on the ground around the feeder. A lot of my bigger bucks prefer eating it off the ground and not out of the feeder. If you can find peanut butter blocks throw those around. I buy a 50 lb block for $6 and they love them

I’ve never had success with spin cast feeders…nor have any of my friends that deer hunt

Where are these 50lb blocks of peanut butter for $6 at?

I had gravity but the damn hogs and coons just shake the damn feeder empty in no time. I just put the spin cast back on to test it out. If I don't get as much activity, I may go back to the gravity.

Tara Foods sells them to a local feed & seed store here in South Ga. Any pnut butter that hits the ground is considered contaminated and unfit for human consumption due to e coli . Shockingly the pigs have not been attracted to it like I thought they would.

I put a new motor on mine with a guard and they were wary of the new look of the motor and guard. They finally got over it once the corn piled up under the feeder and the does couldn't resist.
Still got a couple bucks that won't go near it and just walk by.

You know the name of the feed store. Can’t find them anywhere online. Appreciate the information
