First in a swampy area with canebreak rattlers, copperheads, and milksnakes. Second area appears to be central Louisiana with coachwhips and king snakes. Rat snakes everywhere. Good look at how to handle non-venomous snakes.

Had a rat snake in my garage last night. Don't mind as they are effective pest control but those sumbitches STINK. I thought one of the dogs left a giant cleveland steamer for me when we got home from dinner. Nope, just a rat snake hiding in a box of garden hose nozzles.

So do these guys purposeful place tin out in the woods so they have places to find snakes?

Tin was a widely used building material back in the day, especially for farm buildings

There is tin spread out all over creation down in South LA from Hurricane Ida. I still have a piece stuck in a tree about 40 feet up.

Yeah, I think everyone understands that. Not sure why I'm getting down votes. My question was more to is someone driving from Georgia to Louisiana to catch snakes and you think they just decided to walk into random places woods hoping to find tin? It looks more like the tin was placed out there (maybe years before) solely to find the snakes.

I have random tin on my property which I try to removing during winter because I don't like random trash on my land.

He may be getting recommendations and permissions from viewers at this point.

We had a place exactly like that one on our lease where there were two rotted out collapsed barns. I know it was loaded up with snakes but we never go looking for them.

I have a 12 ft jb I keep flipped over at the lake. Every time I go to use it, as I'm about to flip it over, it's like cranking a jack in the box hoping I don't find a copperhead orgy.

First time I've ever seen a racer not haul arse when startled.

Every time one I startle one, they startle me even more.

I pondered the same thing you did.

I'm not at all against people flipping tin or anything, but I kind of feel like its cheating.

I noticed when dude got accidentally uncomfortably close to that copperhead NKF said something like "he has no vision." I'm assuming when they are brumating in total dark for long periods of time they are not only lethargic, but also can hardly see when all that light hits there eyes suddenly.

Plenty of them do. One guy I know found La.’s Holy Grail, the Louisiana milk snake, and started laying out tin. Cultivated a site where he can flip multiple milk snakes on command now (like 4 in one shot).

But I wouldn’t want him to say “here’s the coordinates to my tin, go find you a La. milk” - because to me that’s not finding one myself.

One of the big Florida guys with over 3 million followers combined on TikTok/Insta is staying at my house this weekend. He has an innate ability to find habitat, get on satellite, and find tin flip sites. The dude is incredible at it.

Put a snake in front of me and I’ll catch it, but I’m a rank amateur compared to those guys when it comes to finding snakes on that level. Doing my best to learn from them though.

Herping is an entirely different game now than it was when I was growing up, and these young guys today can actually make a living at it through social media.
