Living in an Rv

Would any of you seriously entertain the prospects of living in an Rv after retirement and leisurely seeing the U.S.? The idea appeals to me.

I'd like to have one to take out a few times a year but no way could I live in one.

Yes.
There's actually a subculture of people who completely guy and build from the trailer up (sometimes) a tiny home in the place of the RV.
They develop interesting ways to store everything too.
In my position, all I'd need is a sturdy place to stay to shelter from winds/heat/cold at night. Day time? I'd gladly spend the rest of my life outside.

I would want a home base. A low maintenance condo would work. I would follow the LSU ball teams for away games, and take week long trips elsewhere.

Yes I've been reading about these mini homes. There are many things appealing about the lifestyle. No grass to cut. No property taxes. Move around where the weather and opportunities are good!

Certainly - effectively just a cabin cruiser on wheels - I can see spending weeks and weeks on the road seeing stuff. Not 12 months, for sure, but for a signficant portion of the year.

I lived in one right after my divorce for a while. Like anything, it took a little getting used to. I'm glad to have something bigger now, but I wouldn't say I'd never do it again.

In an RV that costs as much as a house? Yes, I would.
My in-laws just got a new one for a little over 100k and I'd be perfectly content living out of that thing.

That's what I think. All i'd need the sturdy shelter for is to handle the harsher environmental conditions. It starts to wear on you after a while. Actually, from all my adventures, I've found wind to be the most pesky thing.
Anyway, like another poster said, I'd want a home base to go to...but that can be a tiny home on property as well.
Think: An old shipping container you see on the back of an 18 wheeler...convert that into a nice house on a small piece of property on a mountainside.
I wouldn't want to have it any other way....

My parents entertained the idea. My mom didn't want to ditch the big house on the water because it's a big draw for the grandkids, but my dad almost had her convinced to ditch the big house for a small "base camp." They had worked their way up to one of those 42' diesel pushers with heated ceramic tile, ceiling fans, sleep number queen size bed, separate tub and shower, kitchen with full size frig., washer/dryer, etc. It cost more than most people's houses. They did a lot of multi-week cross country trips. However, something broke on the RV EVERY time they took it out. Then they'd have to travel from Bay St. Louis to Tampa Bay to get it fixed. Every time. Finally became more trouble than it was worth.

a big arse boat, maybe... probably not an RV. Im more a water person.
