re: Minn Kota vs Motor Guide Trolling Motors
Posted by Hootie Who on 5/7/24 at 1:20 pm
i've had both. Either is good but the motorguide is better at holding anchor mode or spot lock. the xi5 i have now is 8 years old and has never had a problem other than i had to replace the remote ($100) this year as the circuit board was corroded. My boat stays on lift in salt water and remote s...
re: Towing a boat with 1/2 ton truck.
Posted by Hootie Who on 5/7/24 at 1:14 pm
i did it for years. pulling it the only problem is (depending on gear ratio) is it doesn't like 75mph. if pulling 65ish no issues at at other than very mpg. Stopping it is the concern. if the boat trailer brakes work which they seldom do with alot of maintenance and money, then its not bad stopp...
re: Shell Beach boat slip rental
Posted by Hootie Who on 5/7/24 at 1:10 pm
I don't know anyone with an open boat slip right now. They are pretty high in demand. I would post in hopedale fisheries or Campo's facebook group. maybe someone would rent one for a couple of days but they rent them by the month on long term rentals (annual)....

re: Duramax Diesel-Repair

i think the biggest and busiest is Tri Care and Coy's both close to Gonzales. Both do great work but i wouldn't let Coy's work on anything of mine because of the manager/rudeness.
I used Diesel avenue off Florida Bvld and was happy with the work and time it took them. i would use them again.

re: Specs in Lake Borgne, MRGO areas this weekend
Posted by Hootie Who on 11/7/23 at 7:29 am
Early morning fish outlets into Lake Borgne. Look for current lines from the outlet. Afternoon you can look for birds or common areas that usually hold fish like Martello Castle. Last weekend they would only bite live shrimp, didn't want anything to do with plastic of any type or color, i tried ...
re: Marsh bite anyone?

I fished Saturday in Hopedale. 30 keeper trout and probably caught over a 100. Most are small males as the bigger females i don't think have made it in. i found them in a 14-20 foot hole with shallow water around. fished limbo slice and lemonhead matrix shad on the bottom with a slow slow retrie...

re: Questions re Lifting Mobile Home on Pilings
Posted by Hootie Who on 6/28/23 at 1:41 pm
Code depends on location. In Hopedale/Delacroix I was told 15 feet to the bottom. Mobile home had to be a class 3 wind with certification papers from manufacture. I was quoted 25k for pilings and lifting up in place. 45k for pilings, lifting up in place and porches front and rear....

re: Difference in depth/fish finders
Posted by Hootie Who on 3/13/23 at 7:55 am
Bluechart is inshore and offshore. I had both, previous generations. The 94 is better/more detail for inshore and offshore, the inland lakes will be basemap. The 93 is better/more detail for freshwater inland lake fishing, inshore and offshore will be basemap. You can add a map card to either. ...

i own a Rtic, Pelican and several Yeti's. I like the Rtic and Yeti better than Pelican. all of them are better/more rugged than the regular type ice chest. The one thing about Yeti is they are everywhere so parts/accessories can be found no matter where you are....
re: SigSauer vs H&K
Posted by Hootie Who on 1/27/23 at 10:50 am
You're not going to go wrong with either, both are high quality brands. I went to buy a Sig, ended up with H&K. Hold both, or all 4 in this case, and your hands will tell you which one to buy....
re: Has anyone had any dealings with Bent RV in Albany La.? Considering a purchase from them
Posted by Hootie Who on 1/26/23 at 1:31 pm
My nephew bought a new bumper pull from them about a year and a half ago. Had one of the AC's went out at 6 months so he had to take it back under warranty. They replaced it quickly and no hassle to him. He will recommend them to anyone. My camper came from Berryland and i would recommend them a...
re: H&K Question: VP9 or P30SK
Posted by Hootie Who on 8/9/22 at 1:14 pm
I have both, well I have the 2000sk which is very similar to the P30. I carry the P200sk. It's a version 3 (non lem) that i can decock and carry that way. The DA trigger pull is around 10-11 lbs. The SA pull is 4-5. Both nice but since i'm a civilian and not Law enforcement i prefer DA/SA firear...
re: Mini-Ex? Land clearing question
Posted by Hootie Who on 4/14/22 at 8:16 am
It will cost you $4-500 per day for a small excavator that will be enough to clear land...roughly 25hp. I am clearing 3 acres right now and rented and operated myself to save a little money, but i have also been around equipment/tractors most of my life. If nothing else it's fun being able to lea...

Bubba Dear is the best around, but also the busiest because he does alot of insurance claims jobs and they take precedence. A friend of mine had his boat there 6 months to replace the transom. But he is the best.
I've also used D&T in Livingston and have been happy with Mr. Doug's work. http:...
