re: No captains license required
Posted by lctiger on 6/4/24 at 6:11 pm
Family member of survivors made a post today with her parents recap of story. Coworkers were talking about it. Sounds like all but captain were in cabin when it flipped. Everything went dark. Man was trying to hold cabin door open but was a struggle. He got out. His wife’s life jacket got caught on ...

I was at Toledo Tuesday. My camp is in Toledo Village far South end on west side. Wind at my camp was NNE and howling. My boat in lift sits 4 feet above water level when lake full and waves were hitting against back of my boat. My guess would be 40-50 mph winds. Story I heard was that the boat was g...

re: Why aren’t batters swinging when catcher step toward (not on) the plate.

This scenario comes up pretty often in younger kid baseball. You have 2 outs and a runner on third and a 9 hole batter that has struck out his last 20 at bats. As the third base coach you don’t want to leave runner stranded at third. When you signal the steal, the batter would confirm he got the sig...

So I guess you call a play to tell batter try and hit the catcher if he comes forward. Really? And as you are swinging at the catcher make sure your bat doesn’t come around and hit our runner in the teeth....

Almost always when stealing home the batter is told not to swing. Imagine a line drive hitting the runner in the face as he is stealing home...
re: Umpire: "If the Catcher steps on or in front of plate WITHOUT POSSESSION of the Ball"!?!?

No way. Umpires meet, get their story straight and whether true or not they will ride it out forever, even if totally wrong...

If the pitcher has started his delivery he has to just pitch the ball. If the runner breaks toward home when the pitcher comes set, usually the third baseman will yell step off, at that point pitcher steps off rubber and becomes a fielder. Left handed pitcher can’t see the runner so it gives runner ...

re: If Herring steps off the rubber and throws it home then none of that matters?

When pitchers are taught how to handle a runner on third you teach this. If the pitcher comes set and the runner takes off the third baseman or coach yells step off. The pitcher steps off rubber and at that point becomes a fielder and can throw the ball home and the batter can’t swing. If the runner...

Never seen catcher interference called unless batter swings and hits catcher or his glove. This used to be common in youth ball as runners on third try to catch pitcher off guard and force a balk because the pitcher freaks out and stops his delivery. You have to teach them to step off then throw hom...

Not doubting he said it, but trying that play is basically saying this guy batting has no chance so I’m gonna roll the dice and try to steal home...

Baseball 101 also says never steal home with a righty at the plate unless he knows you are coming. Most teams have a signal from the batter to make sure he got the call so the guy stealing home doesn’t get killed...

So a still shot of Neal showing ump the ball as ump steps toward mound and starts to signal out. Now that you’ve been shown pictures of the umpire signaling out after emphatically denying that he did, I’m not really sure where you are going with this. Are you trying to imply the ump called a balk? A...

It was immediate. Neal tagged him, turned around and showed the ump the ball, ump steps toward mound and starts to raise his hand to signal out in a very routine way. That pick is taken just after Neal casually rolled ball toward pitchers mound. The play was totally a routine out for that ump and he...

I 100% saw the home plate ump signal out. He walked toward pitcher and made fist in front of his chest
