Why are most women not funny?

It's the general consensus that most women arent funny. Putting professional comedy aside for the most part, why arent women funny?
The most logical argument I've heard is that men prefer and use humor that is more assertive/aggressive.
While women prefer humor that brings together social cohesion.
Maybe these differences determine what is considered funny
