the other topic at hand was determining which teams were tipping their hand toward “hot seats” next season.

Three names that came up in my conversations with folks around the league were the Memphis Grizzlies’ Taylor Jenkins, the New Orleans Pelicans’ Willie Green and the Portland Trail Blazers’ Chauncey Billups.

Green won 49 games in New Orleans, but enters his fourth season facing increasing scrutiny about his offense and player usage, especially the revolving door at the center position. A recent contract extension likely makes it untenable to move on from him this summer, but a slow start next year could be a different story.

Griff's seat should be on fire this off-season.

Griff and Willie’s seat should both be on fire. I can’t ever remember a gm that has accomplished less while starting off with more than him.,

He started off with AD, Zion and Jrue and has turned that into playin teams year after year.

He literally answered that with the very next words after what you quoted

And he started with a shite ton of assets.

There is no denying Griff wasted the assets he was given. There is also no denying he came close to balancing the scales by pulling Herb and Trey with lesser assets. We can’t just say Griff screwed #4 without also acknowledging he outkicked the coverage with #35 and #17.

What he does with BI, or lucks into after he screws up a BI trade, will ultimately determine whether Griff and the Zion era succeeds or fails.

We’ll see but you kind of have to hit on a lot of things to be a contender. And wasting the number 4 pick is pretty damning.

It is easier to fire a coach than admit your star player is a fricking retard like Ja is.

There is no question that he is more lucky than good, but he’s lucky enough in his career that it’s hard to dismiss as random luck not likely to happen again. To me the point is, who is the POBO is not something we have any impact on. Trying to indict Griff on this board is pointless, but understanding what he and this front office is good at can tell us what we want him to do.

For instance, I have no interest in this front office trading for and using a top 5 pick. It just seems like something that doesn’t play to their strengths. We want a BI trade bringing back players more than anything else. We also have a clear Willie problem where Griff needs to acquire players that fit his style or he will lean on lesser guys more than he should. At the very least that means trading for Trae or Garland means trading CJ too because Willie has always avoided pairing CJ with another small/defensively challenged guard.

I’m fine with moving on from Willie if the right coach becomes available, but I’d rather not make change just for the sake of change. If we fire Willie due to a slow start, that essentially guarantees Borrego. I’m afraid that he’d do just good enough to get a shot, and then we are just back on this coaching carousel again.

This is crazy, Jenkins is a good coach. I’d dump Willie for Jenkins in a heartbeat

He had no choice in dumping those two.

The issue laid in: skipping over garland. Spending so many stupid assets to find a center. And not buying low on players when you had the chance to.

So another wasted season coming where the team will underachieve and Willie will have a fourth year to show he has no idea what he is doing.

This is what great leadership brings.

Maybe so but he wasted so many opportunities with those resources and hired terrible coaches and administration.
The guy needs to go yesterday.
