LSU head coach Will Wade recently spoke with College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein about the roster he plans to build for next season.

Wade said he made the mistake of paying too many players last season at NC State and plans to focus on the seven to eight players who will get the majority of playing time in games at LSU.
quote:

"One thing that we did last year that I made a mistake on was that we basically paid eleven guys," Wade said.

"We went out and got eleven guys and had a lot of depth, and depth is really important for practice, it's not as important for games when you are only playing seven or eight guys, nine max."

"So we had some dead money on the roster. One thing I'm focusing on here is that we're only going to pay for seven or eight games at LSU this year."

"We'll fill out the back half of the roster with some guys that can help us in a pinch, but we want to put our resources into those main guys."

This is not the college sports I fell in love with.

Truth. Openly saying we will have 7-8 real players and the rest will be scrubs that can't find a team elsewhere. Sad state of affairs what this money grabbing has done to college sports

100 percent. Using terms like ‘dead money’ show how far off course we are. Tough to be a fan.

It is a gamble. What happens when you get a couple of injuries and couple stars are out for a long time or the season. The fill ins will get playing time but won't get any money.

If you lose multiple stars due to injury you aren't winning a championship anyway.

I’m not a coach but been way too many injuries over the years. Yes 11 is excessive but 9 is the right number. I guess it depends upon how good the guys you aren’t paying are, but hard to imagine passing up more money elsewhere If they are any good.

Hey Larr, how about a pic of WW in LSU gear.

He made the mistake of paying them from donors. Never again! He will only cut checks from his wife’s checking account going forward.

You think they are only going to get 1 player? It's obvious you haven't been paying attention.
