Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry spoke in front of a crowd at the “Politics with a Punch” event in Metairie on Monday night and defended his decision to bring a live Tiger into Tiger Stadium last Saturday and also took a shot at LSU for their blowout loss to Alabama. Per The Advocate:
quote:

“Our tiger, our live tiger, unfortunately, disappointingly, was the only tiger who showed up Saturday. I’m sorry,” Landry told a boisterous crowd Monday night in Metairie at an event known as “Politics with a Punch."...

“I’m going to tell you something. This is about tradition. And the thing about tradition is about respecting those who came before you,” Landry said in answering questions from host Jeff Crouere in his most detailed comments yet about his controversial decision to revive a tradition of having a tiger at Tiger Stadium...

“I had more people come up to me, and they remembered Mike the Tiger more than some of the great plays in Tiger Stadium,” Landry told the crowd Monday night. “And they grew up as children seeing this. It’s about tradition. At the end of the day, these woke people have tried to take tradition out of this country. It’s tradition that built this country.”

Baylor’s bringing out a live bear this Saturday. Also Providence is working on pulling a REAL Friar Monk out of a Monastery to work as an analyst and mascot on game days. Stanford is now gonna cut down a real tree day before each game to drag out and parade it around. And I’ve heard from people in the know that talks are in the works at Syracuse between them and the Florida orange farmers to get something going. Landry is ahead of the game baws!!!!

I hope Garret Graves runs for Governor next time. This guy is on the scale of Special, sort of in the Forrest Gump or Rain man range.

So it's ok to have Mike locked in a cage for his entire lifetime with hordes of people staring at him through a fence, while being blasted with music right next to his habitat on gameday so long as he's not paraded through the stadium in a cage? Makes sense.

As others have said, this wasn't tradition at all. Mike is the tradition parked right by the visitor's locker room.

nope. When I was a kid in the 70s, Mike was driven around the field in his cage. He was also parked by the visitor's locker room, but he was definitely driven around the edges of the field.

How long was he in the stadium? When they bring Mike back in, I'm thinking do a lap around the field before the game and prolly haul him back out, huh? Unless he's just having a helluva time.

Exactly, if he wants tradition, then do it right. Tradition is to park him near the visiting teams tunnel. Putting him across the field doesn't really do anything when it comes to the intimidation factor.

Liberals hate tradition as much as they hate Trump. I agree with Landry about this. It's a freaking Tiger that will kill and eat you at it' first chance. Furthermore it's an animal not a human being, let it go and enjoy the traditions that made LSU great.

This is not the LSU tradition though. Everything he's done to this point is just to get him TV time and he thinks the people he Governs are idiots. You should be embarrassed by this, not pumping it up.

It's not a matter of liberalism or the tiger's wellbeing. Putting some random tiger in Mike's cage infringes on our tradition.

This has nothing to do with liberals or Trump. It's a jackass, non-LSU affiliated governor using our taxpayer money for a political stunt. Typical Louisiana.

Tradition isn't putting some rando tiger in Mike's cage.

He’s such a dumb shite, his line about wokeness at the end is telling of his true intentions. He wants to garner national headlines for battling wokeness that get him noticed. This was not about respecting tradition, by the time you trotted out Feauxmar, most met it with a sigh at best….but keep taking your victory lap Jeff

Here we go again with people putting wild animals on the same pedestal as human beings. The freaking animal was not tortured in any way. Y’all need to get over this petty nonsense. It’s not that big of a deal. Damn
