Hell some grenades would just maim the animal into an attack frenzy or a retreat. Not a good option either. Knifes, swords....get outta here with that shite. You're gonna die.

In 1999, 68-year-old Alaska Gene Moe used a folding knife to kill a Kodiak brown bear – the biggest of the grizzlies – after it attacked him while deer hunting.

Others have beaten off bears with rocks or tree limbs used as clubs. Aggressive action using whatever weapon is available should always be the response to black bears that try to get too close, but greater judgment is required in dealing with grizzly/brown bear given that the aggression shown by many sows might just be aimed at protecting their young.

A very long stick with a snap to the feet, and arms (claws).

There is something to be said about the anatomy of animals.

Something, like a Whip.

Awesome!

Thanks for providing that link!

Why not bring a Katana, though?

He knew what the danger was.

Rocks, a pocket-knive and tree-branches were bad decisions.

"Kodiak Black Bears" are in your area, but you don't think enough beforehand to prepare for the situation.

Rocks, tree-branches and pocket-knives are not the solution.

I like everyone else's ideas.

Too heavy and long. You want to be light as possible in the backcountry. Probably wouldn't be able to maneuver one around an attacking brown bear anyway.

Dude had a rifle, just got knocked out of his hands.

The same way I would kill a Grizzly Bear that had a gun.. I'd use my gun. But why am I killing a bear?

Just think, back in the olden days they had a pointy stick and/or a rock. If neither of those could work, throw the little ones and the ones with bumps on chest (women and children) to the beast to satisfy it.

My personal preference is a flame thrower. In addition to flambe grizzly, it helps keep the campsite warm on those long Alaskan winter nights.
Roasted salmon with charred moose head cheese pairs well with grizzly backstrap, fava beans and a nice Chianti....

No grenades. Why is I grenade always a solution? It literally blows everywhere into pieces. Right, or wrong.

No grenades!

Unfortunately the tale of the tape favors them in reach. Add the tremendous paw with edward scissorhands……..I’m afraid they gonna slap your head off before you can reach it’s snout. Maybe not completely off, but not hanging on by much.

**maybe go in low and hard for the takedown. TWSS

I would sic my butler/bodyguard Silverback Gorilla on the Grizzly and then record the entire event on my iPhone 69. In landscape mode, of course.
