That wouldn’t cover our plane tickets. Do you go on RV trips or something?

$1k a day. More kids you have, the worse the destination is. I don’t have kids so my wife and I usually go to nice places.

Yes. We are going to Maui in September. We will play some golf, go fishing, maybe island hop, etc. 4 of us for 14 nights we will probably spend between 25-30K.

Interesting to read the replies here. I don't see how you could do a week long vacation with kids on anything less than $4000.

My wife and I just have a dog, and if we wanted to fly somewhere, rent a car, stay in a hotel/air bnb, and board our dog for 5-7 days I'd imagine we would be looking at a little over $2000 on accommodations alone. Depending on the venue, eating out, shows, tickets to other stuff, etc. I could see us spending $4k easy.

With kids I'd budget at least $6k. If you're going to Disney, add a few grand on top to be safe.

We spent about $7k for three weeks in Spain which included tickets to the Spanish Grand Prix ($1000).

This didn't include hotels and flights as I used points for those. It does include one train trip and six private drivers as I found private drivers to cost no more and in some instances be cheaper than renting a car.

We also ate dinner at a lot of very nice restaurants (many were Michelin). Still other than Barcelona food in Spain was inexpensive compared to where we live.

Took my family of 5 to Yellowstone for a week last year cost about $6k total.

This year going to Universal Studios for 4 nights and cost is $5k before we step foot on property and spend a dime on food and souvenirs. Costs have shot up dramatically the last year. Wanted to do Grand Canyon but just air far was hovering around $4k. This may be our last big trip for a while till things settle

God, you are insufferable.

A lot of people use points and miles to travel. Get over yourself.

Those saying $5k are blowing me away. Are y’all going to Hawaii or Europe every year or something? Fuuuuuck that. I spend $2,500 at most (usually $1,500-$2,000) on most family vacations. Hell, even a Disney trip for the family costs me $3,100 but that’s so few and far between. If you’re spending $5k on a typical family vacation, you either need to invest in a vasectomy or tone down your extravagant vacations.

Or maybe I’m just a tightwad, who knows. No way am I regularly spending &5k on a family vacation every year.

so i just looked it up. for a cheap trip to gulf shores going monday-thursday- (4 days, 3 nights)- you are going to spend more than 1k just on the condo after fees and everything and this is pretty much cheap bare bones 2br condo. lets call it 1100 total

then gas from BR to Gulf shores and back- ~500 miles @ 22mpg= ~23 gallons, lets call it 30 gallons just to be safe. Average price of gas is 4.25 so ~$110

then food for 4 for 4 days, assume you make sandwiches to eat on way there and the whole time there for lunch plus another $150 in food for the week for dinners plus beer and drinks so looking at $250 at a very minimum where you dont buy a single thing.

ice- another $50

So lets say you literally got the cheapest place you could find, went at the cheapest time, didnt leave the beach to go do any other activities, ate sandwiches on the trips and for lunch everyday you are still looking at $1500 and that is the absolute cheapest you could do a gulf shores vacation where you literally do not buy a single frickign thing and eat nothing but sandwiches and cook things like hamburgers at night and dont leave the condo.

sounds like a miserable fricking vacation imo.

personally i would rather go friday-thursday and spend 400-500 a night minimum and i would rather go down to orange beach or 30a. thats 6 nights so $2400-3k minimum. If i go to destin prolly going to be much closer to 4k just on the condo.

then im going to stop and eat along the way at decent restruants and prolly gonna go see my wifes parents in nola the night before to break up drive. So im gonna spend another 300 just on meals on the way there for a family of 5.

then im gonna be driving from lake charles so that is antoher 125 miles just to get to BR and if i go to destin instead of gulf shores thats another 80 so over 200 miles more.

then im not sitting in the fricking condo all day. we are going to go ride go karts at night, go do putt putt at night, go off shore fishing one day, prolly go play golf one day. Gonna go parasailing, gonna do the big tube etc plus we are going to go shopping. More then likely my wife is gonna spend 1k just shopping at the outlets and other shops.

all that right there is gonna add up. then you add up going to dinner 3-4 nights plus another 300-400 in other food for the week and alcohol.......yea that shite is expensive.

not sure how anyone thinks they are going to have a reasonable vacation for a family of 4 for $1500-2000. maybe if you do like i described above and are a complete and utter cheap arse who doesnt leave the condo except go to the pool and beach and eats sandwiches all day but personally i would rather not even go if i had to do that.

5k is not crazy expensive at all.

alot might but most dont for sure. and most going on trips to the gulf coast every year are not flying and honestly alot of them are financing that shite, unless they are doing a vacation like i described.

I’m a single guy going to LV next weekend(Fri-Mon). So far I’m out about $1500 for flight/hotel*/One show. I still have to eat, occupy my time for two other days, and get around. *It’s NFL Draft weekend, so hotels aren’t very cheap. Had to settle for Harrah’s for what I would normally pay for a step or two up. Could have saved a couple hundred had I realized that before I booked. A

Where Vegas gets you is the food. The SO easily spent $1,000 in food only on a 4 day work conference trip. But he said it was absolutely amazing and doesn’t regret it at this point.

Lodging is what costs. I looked around for a cabin for a week in Tennessee and it was outrageous. I'll stay an hour from Gatlinburg at my parent's house and save 4 grand.

god damn, what kind of vacation are you goin on for 15k?

i thouhgt i spent alot on vacations lol.

ftr OP we go on mutiple vacations every year. the beach vacation would have cost 7500 or so this year but this one is a family vacation my fahter does to get all of his kids and grandkids to go so he picks up the lodging.

but other years he doesnt do that, we spend abotu 7500 like i described.

then we do a vacation just me and the wife...thats usually 4k or so.

if we are doign a big trip like disney then we will spend much less on the beach like around 3-4k and only do 4 nights or so. then spend a lot more on the disney trip.

About $3,000 every other year and in the opposite years we “vacation” at a family member’s house. Unfortunately, the family member lives near an IKEA store and outlet mall, so the actual vacations to the beach or mountains may be cheaper ??

Last trip to Key West ran about $5k, Jackson Hole about $7500. That's just between 2 people. That was last year though. I would add 2k to each trip now to account for inflation.
