Watching Moffett's outing from last night right now. His fastball has a ton of movement. He's sitting 95. Control seems to be improving. He's getting called and swinging strikes. I haven't seen anything but the fastball, but at this point, I don't care.

Always thought coming in he would be a future closer here. He was up to 98 I think prior to the season.

Outside of Snead and Peebles, aren’t these “blatantly missed big names” third basemen?

Yeah, and I think people get caught up in thinking portal guys are definitely better than what we have coming back.

Tennessee took two catchers because both of their catchers were garbage. They took a third baseman because their third baseman is graduating and they don't like what they have behind him. They're losing 3 or potentially 4 of their top 4 outfielders and some of the guys coming back haven't panned out yet. They still don't have a shortstop for next year. And they have to replace a lot on the mound.

It's why I said earlier in the thread, you can't compare the two portal strategies because the needs are vastly different.

The Northwoods League streaming service on their website. It's free to sign up. You just have to fast forward to the end of the game to see Moffett's inning.

I had watched some of it last night to see some ABs from Frey and Paul. Mostly saw them walk. Frey hit a homer in the first that I missed. I saw him single in the top 9 before Moffett's inning came up. It was a good AB and I'm really starting to like him as a regular for the next couple years.

People are frustrated because the big fish haven't announced yet. Those people can't be helped.

The balls are juiced in MLB as well so I don't think thats going to change. I think the zone is what needs to be adjusted. Up to the SEC Championship The Announcers said that the trackman stats for strikes and balls were concerning because only 94% of balls in the zone were called strikes. That is what needs to changed.

The balls are not juiced in MLB like they were in 2019. There's a new batch of balls every year that never seem to be quite the same as the year before, but nothing was like 2019. These balls in college baseball this year were like the 2019 MLB balls, in how drastically different they were. That must be changed. That just cannot be accepted going forward.

As for changing the problem with 94% of balls in the zone being called strikes, that's an umpire issue that can only be fixed with better umpires. And I don't see that happening any time soon. For as much as some of them squeezed the zone, you'd still see a ball a foot outside called a strike out of nowhere. It's just not good, and hasn't been for a long time.

There haven't been many big fish in the portal anyway.

Despite what seems to be a ton of movement, it's way more chaff than wheat.

I think Jay sees this too. I think he's more content with letting guys like Frey, Neal, Jones, Ruddell etc develop and play instead of just recruiting over them even though fans might not like it. Although I still think another MIF is a big need.

If history has told me anything, you need an experienced catcher and some Louisiana program guys to win a championship at LSU. Power helps too.

I think people forget there is a reason these guys were recruited in the first place. And they didn't sit because they weren't good. They either sat because they weren't ready or because the guys in front of them were just better. And Jay takes a lot of pride in developing guys. And he always says the biggest jump is from year 1 to year 2 in his system.

It's the shiny new toy concept. People see a guy in the portal and see his stats are decent to good and assume LSU will be all over them thinking they will be better than what we already have.

Same concept as people saying the backup QB is better than the starter.....unless the starter is Joe Burrow of course.

Was wondering when he would join them. I checked this morning and he still wasn't on the roster yet.

I have Ben Nippolt (maybe waiting to see what happens with draft), Griffin Herring, and Paxton Kling still not shown on their summer rosters yet as of this morning.

Same. We did get Moffett, Bucknam, and Bronzini on rosters without prior announcement. Still looking for Dutton and Primeaux to show up somewhere too. Primeaux especially.

I saw Primeaux's dad in Omaha, he is supposed to play with the Rougarou. Said he is healthy and good to go!

Yes its been a problem for a long time which only amplifies the need for the automated strike zone and have the umpire behind the plate making all the other calls (swing, foul tips, safe/out at the plate, HBP, pitch clock, Batter clock, etc.).

I hope they do something about the balls, though. I know the pace is here to stay, and I guess the strike zone as well. But as much as I like hitting home runs, I don't like seeing pop ups leave the yard against us, and I'm sure pitchers would agree.

How many pop ups did you see leave the yard? Outside of the Florida game with a 30 mph wind blowing out. I do not recall a bunch. Leave the ball alone college baseball is fun to watch again. Teams playing in little league parks is the main reason for so many HR
