Do they not plan or choreograph these things? Should they have more than 1 flying at a time if they are just willy nillying with no plan? I'm not familiar with how air shows work.

I wasn't familiar either and that looked like chaos and a disaster waiting to happen.

Here is a video from last year:

I guess it is organized chaos and a surprise these accidents don't happen more often.

That video (from 2021) is incredible, I wish I had learned about these air shows earlier and not from a tragedy. Those pilots are bad arse. RIP to the ones who lost their lives today.

Man that sucks.
I've seen Texas Raiders flying on several occasions. It was based out of a general aviation airport near Tomball, TX.

Could've have been even worse if it had happened moments earlier over businesses, parking lots and roads.

Looking at multiple videos I was trying to see what happened
to the smaller plane. That thing just disintegrated in mid air.

I find the lack of evasive maneuvering at the end rather odd. Pilot would have been able to see over his nose as it wasn’t a hard bank from that angle. No change in its AoA.

I would be honored if my last moments were in a B-17 at low altitude.

Now at 15,000 feet, I would think differently.

Those on the B-17 had maybe three seconds to live after being struck. Hardly even time enough to understand what just happened before the ground took them out. At least their terror was as brief as possible. Very sad this happened.

So tragic. Walked through that plane with my two daughters and father at the Houston CAF event in the Spring.

It would appear there needs to be more spacing kept between planes at shows like this.

Just ridiculous for that many planes to be in that small of an area that low to the ground.

He's clearly over 45° which means all he can see is the ground to his left and sky everywhere else. He might have never even seen the bomber.

Plus the P-63 has a pretty long nose on it so couple that with bank angle and where the B-17 was in relationship to him he probably never saw it.

That's about as bad a number as we could have possibly heard

6 is the minimum crew I believe.
2 pilots
1 flt engineer, 1 load master, and 2 scanners.
Both aircraft based out of Houston.
