Clemson is way on the other side of the state. I'm closer than you will be.

I’ve heard enough about Columbia to know it would be worth driving the extra miles to Clemson to go to a game

Moved from BR to Charleston last year. Huge upgrade. Better quality of life and lower cost of living.

I haven't been to either... but next time LSU plays in Columbia I'll meet you there.

They can be tough to find but try renting a house in Wagener Terrace or Harleston Village. Walkability in Charleston isn’t the same as a big city. You’ll need to leave the peninsula regularly for errands so having some space to yourself is possible and a bigger plus. Wagerner terrace and Harleston village are quiet but close enough that an Uber is cheap or you have some decent spots to walk to. If you definitely want an apartment and not a house, look at the jasper.

I would avoid the Elan, it’s loud as hell in that area and not as convenient as you’d expect. The Caroline is alright but that area of the peninsula floods all the time with just the tides and can be really bad with rain. Brittlebank is a great park if you have a dog but the fishing isn’t great, you really need a boat to fish Charleston. I wouldn’t let anyone scare you about drinking out there. There’s a hobo in the swamp who does what he wants undisturbed. Cops don’t really bother you in Charleston unless you’re acting like a jackass on King. The beaches are a different story but just put it in a cup, don’t be a dick and you should be fine.

Oh hell yes, and I'm not even joking about that. But I'll need someone to bring me a navy seal wetsuit material premium TD koozie

Without even asking him, I can guarantee that bruco would be in as well.

SCLibertarian, can we party in your railroad car?

This is super helpful info, thanks. Just told the GF we need to decide on an area/building ASAP because there's very few options. We're not going to rent a house because we definitely want a pool and the social aspect so we can meet people.

The Jasper looks good but one of our mandatories is an outdoor space, and they don't have any availability for large 2 bedrooms with outdoor space.

Congrats, moved back down South six years ago and even with the summer heat I will never go back up north outside of visiting for the holidays. I've had nightmares about being forced to move back up there.

In my experience and generally speaking the Clemson people tend to be your Carolina Squat redneck types and the USC people are more your snooty aristocratic types. I'm painting with broad strokes here and there are plenty of exceptions.

Lots of good people here from both camps. You're going to love it.

I've been talking to the baws in FBD threads about it for years, and it's finally happening. Girlfriend got her offer letter today (I work remote) and we're going to put Chicago in the rearview mirror. The people in charge who hate me, my tax money, and my law abiding ways can have it...build your progressive utopia.

She's starting at the end of January and will head out before me. I'm staying back for a bit to get the condo listed, get the movers figured, and pack everything up. I should be down there around the beginning of March.

Already a member of the Charleston Badgers group on Facebook, already researching fishing charters and golf courses, and potentially applying for an apartment tonight. Gonna stay downtown somewhere with a pool so we can enjoy the scene and culture our first year down there, make some friends, and get the lay of the land. Maybe purchase something in a few years when home prices bottom out.

I'm now a CofC hoops fan and Clemson football fan, but probably need to make some adjustments to my wardrobe. Already annoyed at all the OSU fans in town.

Charleston baws, anything I need to know about assimilating, let's hear it.

If I were you as a fan of a power-5 school already, I'd skip the Clemson thing and become a secondary fan of Coastal Carolina instead. The Dabo-era Clemson bandwagoners are the worst, and Myrtle Beach would be half the drive from Charleston as Clemson is.
